All protein diet

My surgeon wants me to drink only 5 low carb protein shakes a day until my surgery. no other calories. I am doing laproscopic and I am 370 he wants us at 350 but said with my height it should be ok. He said he wants my liver to be smaller. Does the protien shakes make the liver shrink or is it just so I lose weight
