Lap-Band is done in Canada!!!!

There have been 10 successful Lap-Band (Laproscopic Adjustible Gastric Banding) done in Canada by Dr.'s Joffe and Yau out of Scarborough Grace Hospital in Toronto. Cost for the device is $4600 (gst&pst included) which is the only part not covered by government health plan. Waiting periods are very long due to lack of OR time and qualified surgeons. Dr.'s Joffe and Yau do the procedures together as they are still in the early stages...aparently the laproscopic technique is tricky and the procedure takes longer than most WLS until the surgeon has done hundreds of them. I wanted to share this with my fellow Canadians -- Bravo for socialized medicine!!!!!!
