What can I do to expedite the Insurance Wait?

I have been to my pcp and received my referral. All has been faxed to the insurance companies. Is there anything that I can do to expedite the procedures with them. How long is the average wait. My insurance companies are NYLCARE and Intercare (Beech Street)?
