I'm 4 mos. post-op RNY. My hair is falling out. Is it okay to get highlights?

I am a little over 4 months post-op RNY & my hair is falling out. I had a lot of hair to begin with so it doesn't look that bad but it is still traumatic!! People tease me & say you could have stood to lose some hair anyhow. Anyways, I wanted to get my hair highlighted. Is that okay to do? Will it make my hair fall out even more? Also is there anything I can do to slow it down? Will it ever regrow? I am taking my vitamins daily.
