Topic: Whatcha doing/eating Tuesday...April 7 ??

Been over two weeks since I last checked in ! I have been sick !    😷.  Very sick.....and they still don't know what is wrong !!   UGH !!  I have a headache, back of tongue has blisters, ears ache, slight fever, but the worst part is EVERYTHING taste like bile !!   In the midst of all this, I came down with hand, foot, and mouth disease !!  I am over the HFMD.  I will go see my gastroenternologist later this month. maybe he can figure out what is wrong.  I have found a few foods that are not bile tasting, so that is what I have been eating........soup, noodles, and macaroni&tomatoes.......pasta, pasta, and more pasta !!

My planned eats for today are

breakfast.......no coffee (awful taste).  A piece of toast

lunch............homemade soup.....no crackers ( they taste horrible)

dinner...........either soup, chicken/noodles, or mac and tomatoes

not really counting calories, protein, nothing.....just trying to feel better !!   Even water tastes nasty.

i hope everyone had a GREAT Easter weekend.......me ?  I slept most of day.   Did manage to baked some chicken for hubby and thawed a pie for him....pie is one of my favorite...thought I would try a sliver....nope....pure bile taste !!   😫.     I am better, but I have a long way to get back to being healthy !  I hope this hasn't been too much info, but that is what has been happening in my world !

Slow and steady !!!!  Have a Blessed Day !!!!!!

Easter has been one of the easier holidays for me post surgery. I love ham and deviled eggs. My sister in law cooked, served, and cleaned it up! I made faux potato/cauliflower salad.

I bought no candy for the boy/man child. He's 13 so he got a new water bottle and a new trashcan as an Easter basket. I felt like quite the practical mom.

Now last Thursday..I'd like to redo that day.

One other thing to try is avoiding gluten.  I saw some relief from my IBS-C when I quit gluten 18 months ago.  But it improved even more with the probiotic/prebiotic therapy.

I will try that. I did just change my multi vitamin and wondered if that might have something to do with it too.

I have suffered severe bouts of constipation since my WLS.  The only thing that has helped, and it's been almost miraculous, is taking a probiotic.  I take Align every day.  It works great for me.  I also add a pre-biotic (indigestible fiber) supplement to my morning coffee.  The one I use is inulin.  It dissolves completely and is tasteless.  The only time I've been constipated since starting this regimen is when I had to up my dose of Vitamin D.  I had stopped taking vitamins and developed a severe vitamin D deficiency, so started megadosing 8000-10000 iuis a day.  Apparently, constipation is a terrible side effect from vitamin D (something to consider if you are taking supplements).  Once i dialed my dose back to 2000 iui's a day, the probiotic started doing its job again.

So I had gotten back on track after 5 years and was finally losing weight after going on a high protein low carb diet! I had lost 6 pounds then hit a major road block.... constipation. I was in severe pain and when I though I had finally gotten through it , it would come right back. I added more fruit and added a salad with my dinner, started adding Benifiber to my water and coffee 3 times a day, but it didn't really help. To get things "corrected" I  did something I didn't want to do, but knew it would help..... I went out and ate a greasy cheeseburger and fries. I felt horrible after I ate them and wanted to throw up, but I knew it would get things moving again. I haven't went totally back to my plan cause I don't ever want to be in that much pain again. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help keep me regular while I'm eating a higher protein diet?  I love my protein drinks throughout the day but am so scared to drink them like I was.

Amen.  Amazing how it works so well.  Tracking is such an important part.  When you track, it's so easy to see how the calories and carbs can creep up during the course of the day.  And once I know I've hit my limit for the day, that's it.  No more trips to the kitchen.  Love feeling this "in control" again!!

Topic: RE: has anyone read Dr Matthew Weiner's book A Pound Of Cure?

At the risk of sounding like a fanatic, please watch this video http://youtu.be/fL5-9ZxamXc.  Dr. Tim Noakes explains brilliantly what is going on in our bodies, and explains why we can so easily regain weight after WLS.  WE've fixed our stomachs, but we haven't fixed our livers, which (in obese people) are wired to over produce glucose.  Losing the weight doesn't cure the carb intolerance that causes an overproductive liver, so if you continue to stimulate the liver with carbs and sugar, you will the weight back.

I'm sounding like a zealot right now because I'm annoyed that my own doctors never explained this to me in this way.  Had I understood what was going on physiologically, and the damage that I could do to my entire body just by sneaking in a few carbs (and a few more, and a few more), I never would have allowed myself to get here.  Hoping that if I continue to beat the drum it will help someone else who is struggling.

I'm right there with you.  I put 40 lbs back on and I never even came close to goal.  So, I'm turning it around.  Down 5 lbs so far.  Join me!  You can do it too!!
