Gas and Bloating Part 2 XPost
It is now 3 days since I had my hernia surgery and I'm still not feeling better. I finally got rid of the constipation with Milk of Magnesia but I am still very bloated. I have been taking Gas Ex and not eating much but even water is bloating me. All I have had today is tea and my protein decaf drink and a cup of sugar free pudding. I look like I am pregnant and my stomach is very tender to touch. It feels like the incision is being stretched out. I am in pain whenever I move. It is even causing me to be a little short of breath. I am trying not to take too much pain meds because that just constipates me more. Is this normal? I don't remember getting this bloated before. Is it time to call the doctor?

I just called him and he told me to take more Milk of Magnesia. I don't feel like constipation is a problem now because I have been going a lot but I didn't feel like arguing with him. It's just the gas but I guess I don't need to worry about it unless I have a fever or vomiting. I just tried to eat dinner, which was leftovers from IHOP on Thursday. I got their hash brown thingie with an egg and hollandaise sause and spinach. I could only eat a few bites because it just didn't taste right. Might be the anesthesia affecting my taste buds. I also felt uncomfortable after a few bites.
If I still feel this way on Monday I will definitely go back to the doctor's.

When I was still bloated, I thought swollen from my umbilical hernia surgery in early Nov. the nurse said it was sluggish bowels. I thought my bowels had been moving ok and had been on the miralax regularly. However, I think she was right. Take the MOM again and see if it helps. Are you doing miralax or something to keep you going?

I think that makes sense. My stool was very loose but I just couldn't manage to produce much. Part of it was the pain with any kind of straining. I took the MOM and was able to go a lot. I am continuing to take the Miralax and other laxatives and I am pretty sure I'm pretty empty but still gassy. It's better but still uncomfortable.
How are you feeling? Are you still able to move better?

The knee and thigh are very sore and my hip hurts. I am on pain meds pretty much full time. My knee feels stiff but I am getting 90 degree bends on the machine. I think it will just take time. The chiropractor talked about healing while moving and I guess that is what it is doing while I am on the machine 6-8 hrs a day. My best friend's daughter is a message theapist and she is coming over tonight to work on me. Hopefully that will work some of the soreness out. My first PT appt is Tues. Hopefully by then I will have worked the machine up to 95 or so.
I can sleep in pretty much any position still which is great. Right after the replacement for a long time I was limited to sleeping on my back. I had just gotten able to roll over and sleep on both sides and I'm glad that didn't go away for long. Everything is harder if you can't get good sleep.
Walking is good too. My knee isn't wobbly or unstable. I'm not having to use the walker or cane in the house. So that is good. Just keeping my fingers crossed and doing everything I can to keep the movement going.
