Update on my knee

I had my PT appointment this morning and then the surgeon's appt.  I'm glad I did the PT first so I was more prepared for the surgeon.  The knee was stuck at 84 degrees.  Last week we had gotten it to 94 after I had been on steroids for a week.  But then I went to New Orleans, sat on planes and in airports and it looked like a tree trunk again.  I was religious about walking and going to the exercise room, icing , doing my exercises and everything while I was gone.  The PT said he thought I was going to have to do the maniplulation.  So at least I was prepared when the Dr said he thought that was the best route.  We discussed what would happen if I didn't, which was basically that I could expect to gain a few degrees, maybe but maybe not even end up at 90.  If I do the manipulation, he thinks I have a good possiblity of getting and keeping over 100, maybe not to 120 which would be ideal, but at least 90+ and maybe over 100.  So I am scheduled to go back into the hospital on the 15th.  I will be there for a couple of days, then have intensive PT so we don't end up at the same place again.  I hate this so very much but I am feeling more resolved to this recovery taking a few more months.  Although it will be a set back for sure, it won't be like starting over since I won't have the big incision, bones cut, etc.  So I have 2 weeks of relative independence then I start over with not driving, shopping, etc.  Glad I had a good time in New Orleans.

Luckily, I can handle pain meds without getting sick.  that is the only way I will get through it for sure.

Oh Price, I'm so sorry you'll have to go back to the hospital.  I hope that this will give optimal results.  Hang in there.  I know how difficult long recoveries can be.  When I had major ankle surgery in 2008, it was three months before my foot could touch the floor, then months more of recovery.  It's not fun but we persevere to get to the other side.

Enjoy these two weeks.  I loved going to NOLA for my 60th birthday.  What a great city!

Well Price, that just sucks.  It's better to do what's necessary to get the most flex out of it again.  Hopefully, this next round will go quicker so you can gain your independence back.  Depending on everyone else is probably the most difficult part.  At least it would be for me.  NOLA does rock though!

i'm hoping for the best.  And you are right, the not driving, shopping, etc is really one of the worst parts.
