Hello WL Friends....

I have been struggling with a hernia for a few months now...Dr. ordered a CT Scan and an Endoscopy as well.  This hernia is an incisional hernia from an open DS...my worry is that the hernia repair will be another open surgery.  Also, my potassium levels are very low and this isnt the first time since my surgery last year Ive had problems with my potassium levels...I was advised to eat a banana every second day and half a cup of orange juice on the other days...The banana has a hefty carbohydrate amount...Can anyone help me with suggestions?  Your imput is appreciated!!

For potassium I'm taking 400mg in the morning and 400mg in the evening. Its over the counter rather than a prescription.

Why won't your PCP or surgeon put you on a potassium prescription? I have to take 8 potasium pills a day because I don't need as much as prescription and my dietitian is watching my labs with me and supports the total 800mg I'm taking to maintain my levels.

Thanks so much G. for your message, I would rather do the pills to bring up my potassium levels than waste time trying to raise the levels with carb costing bananas and orange juice.  I will be addressing my potassium deficencey (sp) when I see my pcp at my appt...

i had 2 very large hernias that were repaired when I had my RNY lap.  So I would imagine they may be able to do it without going the open route.  Good luck.

Thank you Price for your message...My hernia is a result of my open DS...darn thing!!  I am hoping I wont need hernia repair as an open surgery!!  Hopefully you are right that it could be done Lap...that would be good!!
