please swing some critters for my DH
My mom has Hep C. She got it from a blood transfusion when my youngest sister was born. It's supposed to kill you in 30-40 years but she's had it for 50. So I think there is hope... and with proper treatment, it doesn't have to be a death sentence. She treats hers with a combination of western medicine and chinese herbs.

My husband has had it for about 35 years. We have the records of when he was admitted to the hospital with hepatitis. He got real sick and jaundiced but got better fairly quickly so they called it Hep A. (hep c hadn't been discovered yet) Unfortunately, he doesnt have A antibodies so most likely that's when he contracted Hep C. There is a high percentage of people who live with it for a long time and never really have complications. They end up dying of old age. I hope your mom and my husband fall into that category!
That's exactly what happened to my mom! She got it in 1961 and it was diagnosed as Hep A but later when she was tested for that, it came out negative.
She only got properly diagnosed because her liver started hurting her. The first biopsy said no liver damage and her Chinese herbalist made up herbs based on that (and recommendations from her doctor at the East-West Medicine Center here in SF) but they weren't working as well as expected and she suspected the lab was incompetent so she had another biopsy and this time there was cirrhosis of the liver. Her herbs were adjusted and her symptoms went away and she's been living large ever since.
