Vitamin D Rapid Increase? XPost

I am scheduled for hernia surgery on Feburary 15th so I had my pre op labs.  My liver enzymes came back high so they wanted me to see my PCP.  She ordered another another test to confirm the results and for some reason she ordered another Vitamin D level, even though my results had been normal.  In one week my D level went from 78 to 51!  What would cause such a drop?
My liver enzymes continued to go up as well.  I have an appointment with my PCP this Thursday and I'm sure she will order more tests but does anyone have any ideas?  Could this be why I have been feeling so lousy lately?
I have posted the results for the last several tests.  I hope they come out right.

i don't know anything about the liver stuff but I do think I started feeling better after surgery when my D3 level came up.  It being low can make you feel lousey.

Hi, both tests were run about 3 days after I took my D.  My NP was concerned that my D level was too high at 87 and had me cut down to once a week.  It still rose for a while at that level so I thought it was ok.  I am going back to every other day for a while until it goes back up and then maybe I'll cut it back to 2 a week.  I doubt they will retest my D for a while since it is still normal.  It's like pulling teeth to get them to test anything.

I'm still worried that it might be your vit A and they aren't testing it. Your D is coming down 'cause you cut it back like you were told for too long. Dry D3 isn't going to accumulate on what you've been taking but dry vit A can accumulate over time and as we age.

I will definitely bring up the Vitamin A and hopefully she will test it.  Would high A cause the liver enzymes to go up or just taking too much A?
I was worried I wasn't taking enough D but it went from 74 to 87 at one a week so I thought it was OK.  It went down a bit 6 months later, to 78 so I should have increased it then but I was just shocked that it went down 27 points in a week.  Is that normal?  I am back up to every other day so hopefully it will go back up.  I am also going to talk to my doctor about the big drop.  Maybe it was a lab fluke or something.

I could very well be lab errors or problems with how different labs check D3. 27 is an awful big drop, not normal for that kind of vitamin.

I know a DSr who had a bad reaction to the change in BioTech's dry vitamin A formulation.BioTech is Vitalady's supplier for A.  He ended up in the hospital with failing kidneys and sky high liver enzymes. The hospital thought it was a virus but never could diagnose him. He got better as long as he didn't take his vitamins. Once he was home he started adding vitamins back one at a time. As soon as he started the dry A, his labs started going crazy again. He's doing fine now but he can't take BioTech's dry vitamin A.

When did they change the formula?  The A I have now I have had for at least a year since I buy in bulk when I order from Vitalady to save on shipping.

I had vitamin D levels greater than 150 all of a sudden after being steady at 100=105 for a year - get tested every 3 months.  I took the D 3 times per week.  After the super high reading, my doctor had me cut my dose to once per week since she freaked out att such a high reading - lab couldn't read it - it was over 150.  In 2 weeks, I dropped to 112 which was a drastic drop and ultimatley went down to 57 in 2 months.  That was over 100 points in 2 months -  not sure how high it actually was.  Well, I went back to twice per week and I have been steady around 80-90 since.  We were concerned about kidney stones with such a high level, which I was sufffering terribly from at that time.

If your dosage is in the 50's at once per week, I would be careful about taking every other day - that is going to skyrocket your dose - you are increasing your dose by 3 1/2 times.  I would recommend twice per week and see how it goes.

I am not sure why you were told it was too high at 87, that was perfect.  It says right on the labs slips - 30-100 and some labs even go to 150 - I am a little leary of going that high, but I am find with it up to 100-110.  87 was perfect.

I dont 'know why so many people have such trouble getting labs done - have you asked your endocrinologist to do them?  I get mine done there eveyr 3 months without even asking.  You flucttuate alot just like i do and it is imperative to get them tested often.  Once  a change is made, my Endo feels they need to be retested 2 months later to make sure the new dosage is working - not making it either too high or too low.

good luck with yoru surgery
