I'm just curious if there are any fellow lightweighters in their early 30's late 20's who have had issues with excess skin. I've been told the younger you are when you have the surgery the less the excess skin will be. I'm also curious if needing to lose less would have some impact on it. I would love any tips on what to do to help with the issue. I haven't had my surgery yet but I want be prepared. Excersise tips etc? Thanks!

I had abdominoplasty when I was in my early 30's (before I got heavy) just from excess skin from my pregnancies in my early 20's.  I think how well your skin bounces back has to do with the elasticity of it to begin with.  Certainly being younger helps, but it's not the only factor.  Exercise helps tone whats under the skin, but excess skin is just that...excess.

Im 30 and am down 100 pounds now.  I have a little bit of extra skin on my tummy, but not a lot, thank goodness.  My major issue is my batwings.   But Im still early out so who knows how everything will shift.   It really is an individual thing.  Everyones skin is different.

I am way over 20 or 30 but wanted to welcome a fellow Georgian to the board.

When I was younger and lost 50 pounds once I had no skin issues.  I have some now but am a lot older and had atleast twice that to lose.

Who is doing your surgery and what type are you having?

Good luck.

Hi Linda! My doctor is Dr. Dennis Smith in Marietta. I'm scheduled for the DS on Feb. 15th but I'm having some second thoughts about wether to do the DS or the sleeve.

I see your other post now.   I hear he is an excellent doctor I'm sure you will do fine with which ever you decide on.  I used Dr. Scott in Rome and was very pleased with him.

Good luck.

The first time I lost a lot of weight I was 21 and lost about 80 lbs.  I was shocked about the excess skin.  No one told me and for a long time I thought I had to lose more weight and it would go.  I only remember the stomach being an issue.  I don't remember being upset about my thighs or arms.
I think it has a lot to do with genetics and just plain luck.  When my sister lost about 140 lbs she said she had no issues with excess skin.
