I'm sick
RNY on 01/16/12
I'm feeling pretty good now. I was so nauseous for the first 4 or 5 days, I had to force myself to drink, but I woke up yesterday and am able to drink my no sugar added carnation inst breakfast without gagging at all. I am still on a full liquid diet, he will switch me to pureed foods on the 31st for a couple of weeks. Then on to real food.
Well, I didn't go to the ER. I was able to sleep a little. My pouch hurts like I've got the stomach flu. Water is staying down but causing an uproar. My husband went to get me some light Gatorade or Powerade Zero. It might be a little easier. I've only had 12 oz of water so far. It's 2:30 in the afternoon. I had some diarrhea too. I would try the Brat diet if I was pre op. Is there a modified brat diet for gastric bypass patients? I haven't tried bananas or applesauce yet and rice and toast are no-nos. Any suggestions?
I see you wrote this 3 hours ago so I hope you are feeling better by now. With the diarrhea I'm guessing it's the flu. I've never heard of the brat diet. SF applesauce should be ok but I still have trouble with bananas.
To bad it's the weekend. You could call the Dr. for a suppository to help with the nausea.

Glad to hear you are beginning to feel better. Don't hesitate to get your bum to the ER even if it is only for some IV fluids. As for BRAT, applesause and toast for sure... I would skip the others. Maybe some broth, for some salt and other trace goodies.
Keep us posted.
