New and need help deciding on a surgery
YOu should request a second sleep study at around the 6 month post op mark. At least that is what they told me. I had to stop the cpap after surgery because my mouth kept opening and it woke me up, then I tried it with the chin strap and I would wake up worse. It just seemed the setting was too strong so I stopped using it and while I don't think the apnea has completely gone, it has improved so much I don't feel bad in the am.
I am going to get the second sleep study done though just to know if the apena is totally gone by that time. Hopefully it will be.

I had RNY and have done well with it..ultimately I think its about maximizing your tool whatever that may be. With that said, I wanted the sleeve due to the same reason you have your concerns regarding having children and malasboprtion issues but my BMI wasn't high enough..If I knew more about DS I would have wanted that but again it wouldn't of mattered because my BMI wasn't high enough. If deciding between the sleeve and DS now I would 100% choose the DS because I know I would need something more than just restriction..so I guess that is the question you need to ask yourself, are you okay with just restriction. Either way you will need to wait 18 months to two years before having babies and by then you will have your protein and vitamins down..that time will fly by! Good luck in your decision!
What I see in the VSG forum, especially the Maintenance one is people doing about as well with RnY. They don't all get to goal but most of the lightweights do. (This is true for all the surgeries -- lightweights do better.) and there are plenty who don't do a ton of exercise but are at a happy weight for them.
