I count total carbs. Try to keep them at about 75 grams a day

I count net, total - fiber.  I didn't worry about them the first couple of months but then found I need to cut them back to keep losing consistantly.

I count Total.

My program discourages using NET and I found their reasons reasonsible. Plus it's easier to count total when you are using a program to track as most (all?) of them don't do net carbs.

what were the reasons for counting total, just curious....on MFP you can search for the food with net carbs only

Well, if you are subtracting sugar alcohols, as some people do (Atkins does this last time  looked), then that's wrong because even though sugar alcohols don't have 4 calories per g of carbs, they do have some calories as some gets absorbed.

If you are subtracting fiber, the same thing can be true. Some fibers are more digestable than others and it hasn't .

Finally, their recommendations for number of carbs per day is based on total, not net. IOW, if they had us doing "net", they would lower the recommended number.

I count as net. As with the others, I didn't count early out and really don't count today. I just stay away as much as possible. If I do have carbs, they are pretty hard core grain types.

One thought, on the net v "gross" I would keep a million mile distance from sugar alcohols. They just plain were heinous on my system. I ate them one day without realizing it. OM dear G!!!

I don't count carbs yet  - I just keep away. 

I also agree to stay away from sugar alcohols.  Sometimes I can tolerate them, but many times not. They are worse on my system than sugar.   It's a shame that most bariatric vitamin and mineral supplements have those pesky sugar alcohols.

I count total carbs.  As MacMadame said, online progrms don't typically have a way to back out the fiber.  Plus, I don't see why the fiber grams don't count, when the total calories do.

Thanks guys, I lost 50 lbs preop tracking my food, so I want to continue to track.  I don't think this is dieting it is just being responsible.  I am planning on limiting "white carbs" like I did preop.  Right now I am doing protein as 50 %, carbs 25%, fat 25%.  Does this sound right?
