Lab Help

I have an appointment with her next week and the office just called and told me to get my ALT and AST redrawn so they can make sure the test was right so I asked the nurse if she would ask the doctor if I could get my A and K tested at the same time.   Is there any other test I should ask for in case she is in a good mood?  None of my levels concerned me last year but I have no way of knowing if they were going up, down or staying the same since it was the first time many of them had been drawn.

You might want to talk to a specialist about the AST and ALT liver enzymes but I have a feeling they're still reeling from your rapid weight loss this past year.

Does rapid weight loss cause ALT and AST to elevate?  My pre op enzymes were a tiny bit high.  My husband has Hepatitis C and I was worried I may have contracted it from him.  (he worked on a hepatitis ward in the 70's and never wore gloves.  Nobody did back then). It's on my list to talk to the Dr about tomorrow.  I get tested annually but it hasn't been quite a year yet.  I was a little concerned but not freaking out.  Thanks,  Tonya

I think it's more rare for a WLS patient not to have elevated liver enzymes during their weight loss phase. Not to worry :)

Both were good.
The B12 was down from over 1500 six months ago so I may increase a little bit so it doesn't continue to go down.
The B1 was down from 197 a year ago.  It was high then so I backed off and only take every other day.

My AST/ALT has been high since my surgery.  My last labs there was an asterisk (*) saying they changed the testing procedures.. amazing... its within normal range now...

Has your AST/ALT been high since surgery or just now?

Oh - BTW - your B12 is still great.

They have definitely gone up in the last six months.  I wonder what that means.  I would think if it were because of my weight loss they would have been elevated then, too.  I have an appointment with my PCP in about a week and I will ask her.

Lady...I know nothing about labs but I'm really glad you are still trying to figure out how to get them taken.  I have friends locally that don't ever get their labs done and I've given up trying to convince them.

I Love your new Aviatar!!!!!   Your hair looks GREAT!
