I know iron and calcium need to be separated by a couple hours. What about iron and, say,Nexium? What about iron and prescription meds besides Thyroid replacements?

I think has to be all by itself. It really is a weakling and gets overwhelmed by just about everything. All iron except for heme iron wants an acidic environment so that's why I think the Nexium and iron is a no-go.

Oh wow Gina, I did not know that.  I take my iron and my omeprazole together in the mornings before I eat anything.

Guess I need to change that.

Thanks

Yeah, you want to take iron with vitamin C and a little fruit or meat. I think you can give it an hour on either side without anything else, so you don't have to wait 2 hours to take the next thing just an hour.

I have read that carbonyl iron is better for us.  Is it okay to take ferrous sulfate iron?  I see you all write about tender iron but I do not know what type this is.  I would really prefer to buy in store locally if at all possible (I know many of you order via vitalady to get such items).  I am concerned though about my iron as it is starting to trend down a little and I know how difficult it can be to get it back up.   I am also concerned as bleeding every month seems heavier since surgery (I went off the pill as I was concerned about potential blood clots.....yes I am a worrier!!).  I also do not want to get constipated!

I have sought help with this via dietician and physician but have not gained a lot of insight (not surprising) and have increased my supplements on my own.

 Jenn,
I've normally been borderline anemic so you can imagine after surgery I was struggling to keep mine up and detest constipation!
My Doc actually put me on a prescription iron called Maxaron Forte that I seem to absorb really well, and it actually keeps me regular instead of constipated! You may want to ask your Doc about writing you a scrip for it?

I think carbonyl ,which we ddo  absorb best,is the brand name Proferrin and Bifera. Both are available in many local drugstores.

Tender iron,is I  *think*,a vitalady only brand aand can only be gotten from her website, but I cannot swear to that.

I do believe the ferrous sulfate is the constipating, tummy hurting kind.
