What is your favorite protein shake recipe? HELP~
I tried one this morning and almost hurled! I used frozen strawberries, a scoop of protein powder, 4 oz of milk, 2oz of yogart = YUCK! I am not sure what I am doing wrong but that was simply nasty. I know I need to add more protein but that was BAD! I need some good recipes fast. I have not been able to stomach shakes but had heard they will help you keep weight off for the long haul. My doctor wasn't a big shake person. He would rather me get it in meat so I haven't worried about it but as I see the scale creeping up I am afraid I need to trust my OH family more. What is your favorite recipe? I couldn't take that YUCK.
Jody posted a whole bunch. I have already tried a few and they are really good. I think it has a lot to do with the kind of protein powder. - Post Date 1/3/12 3:51 pm Topic: Protein drink recipes
I think the secret is in the powder you use. There aren't any vanilla ones I like but I like IDS MultiPro vanilla-cinnamon mixed with milk or 1/2 & 1/2 with a lot of coffee or chai tea on top.
Syntrax Nectar chocolate truffle and strawberry mousse taste the least like protein of the shakes I've tried in 4 years of trying various samples. Chike chocolate and orange cream are pretty good but a little expensive.
Oh, you can also mix 1/2 IDS van-cinnamon and 1/2 Nectar chocolate, milk and add coffee for a nice mocha.
Instead of milk or 1/2 & 1/2, you might try plan almond milk or soy milk.

I can do just about any of them but the Nectars are my favorites. Vanilla with a splash of SF vanilla cinnamon in my decaf, chocolate truffle with a SF hot chocolate packet for a protein hot chocolate, lemon tea with a crystal light peach tea are my almost every day ones. I don't usually use anything bu****er but that is just because I don't want the extra calories or carbs. Sometimes I do a decaf, chocolate protein, half water, half milk in the afternoon and drink that hot but it would be good cold too.

I just got this Ooster blender (single size) and am having a LOT of fun making new protein drink recipies.
This one was very good and filling:
8 oz of milk (your choice what kind)
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate syrup. If you don't have this, dark chocolate Herseys cocoa and a little splenda will be a good substitute
5-6 ice cubes
1 1/2 scoops chocolate protein powder
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate pudding powder
1 sliced banana
Put in blender and mix for about 45 seconds until spoon. Made as above has 45 grams of protein.
To reduce calories - I changed it up some and made it 1/2 milk and 1/2 water. Was still good.
I've mixed this up too since I have some banana protein powder I used instead of the banana and that was very good too. If you have some SF syrups - experiement with them too... raspberry instead of the banana would be good, as well as caramel. I know you get some from Sams Club (SF French Vanilla, SF kahlua, SF raspberry...)

I defininately think protein powder has alot to do with it. I have tried ALOT of powders, and the only one I like is About Time. I use the birthday cake flavor, 2 scoops, 2 cups of milk and 1 1/2 sticks of crystal lite (currently lemonade, but orange is good too!). The chocolate is good,as well as the strawberry. I like the birthday cake because I can add whatever flavor I want to it. Not really vanilla, but sort of, well birthday cake! And eggface has alot of receipes too..might want to try those. I know I threw out ALOT of shakes before I figured out what powder I liked. Good Luck.... Joan
My very favorite is my Lemon Tea. I use Sytrax Nectar Lemon Tea Protein powder.
I put 1 stick of Crystal Lite Lemon Tea in 16-20 ozs of water, add a scoop of protein powder, in a shaker bottle - shake really good to mix it up - let is sit just a little for the foam to die down some - add crushed iced.
If you like coffee, here is a Peppermint Mocha coffee that I got from Nik on the RNY board, just made a few changes.
Mix a scoop of protein powder(I currently use Syntrax Nectar Chocolate Truffle), 1 tbls Hersey's unsweetened cocoa poweder and 1 - 2 tsp of splenda - mix this really good - add enough milk(I use Hood Calorie countdown) to make almost a paste just a little more liquidy. Pour this into a cup of brewed coffee( I use decaf) - stir really well - add around 1/8 - 1/4 tsp of Peppermint extract or you can use Davinci's Peppermint syrups.
I like mine more watered down than 4 ozs of liquid. I usually have between 16 - 20 ozs of liquids in mine. I like to add crushed ice to mine too.
Hope you can find some that you like.

I can't take all that stuff mixed up either. I have recently been using Nectar lemon tea.
one scoop in 32 oz water. yes,32 oz water and then add as many Mio peach mango drops as needed. it is very thin and tasts the least like protein plus you are also getting in 32 oz water.
I have also tried the nectar grapefruit in same am****er with Mio berry flavor drops/ i can actually drink this one all day every day.

Or, how about a non-drinkable shake?
I put a scoop of protein in 1/4 cup greek yogurt, add 1 tablespoon of preserves, and maybe one or two teaspoons of SF pudding mix. Either eat it up with a spoon, or spread it on a bran crisp for fiber.
