Well I'm having mixed feelings right now. I ran barrels this morning at a rodeo and although my horse did good and he tried really hard I'm just too big. I was placing when I left, 10 more girls will run tonight so maybe I will still end up placing (4th when I left). I just feel like its such a struggle for both my horse and me the best thing to do is wait to run him again after my surgery March 13th. I'm going to continue to ride at home to keep him in shape but I'm not going to enter anymore rodeos. That is such a hard thing to say. I am so excited about surgery, my poor horse will probably not know what to do with a much lighter rider! Thanks for listening. Jamie

I hope you do well and place this evening. Keep your options open about competing again, you never know. I'd love to see your event. Maybe you could link us to some video?

Thanks Gina for your support! I will compete again, just really need to wait and lose weight. I have fought it for years and with surgery on the horizon I think I'll just surrender for a few months. Horses, rodeo and competition is something I love. I will come back and be better for it!

Welcome to our LW Board Jamie!!! Congrats on your date!!! One of our Posters "Price" loves horses too and she does buggy races.
I love going to rodeos and watching the girls in the barrel races. One of my goals after losing weight was to ride a horse and I did it! I was scared to death, but i did it!! It was so high...LOL
Just think of how "good" you are going to look racing!!! I would think it would help your time a lot too! You might need a little padding in your caboose though...LOL

Hi Jamie. I'm the other horse crazy one on the LW board. I'm sure these other ladies get tired of hearing about my ponies. I ride a little but mostly carriage drive and complete in Pleasure and Combined driving. There are some pictures on my profile. I have a large Morgan pony and a shetland that I drive. Right now, I am sidelined with a total knee replacement because even losing 100lbs, I wasn't as mobile as I wanted to be. But I hope to be in the carriage and saddle again in another month or so. Even with my bad knee, the change in weight did make me able to walk courses again and get around so much better. I felt better about the weight in the carriage and started riding again after I lost about 80 lbs.
Somethings to pay attention to with your weight loss. Keep doing strenght training. I know I lost muscle mass when I lost so fast with WLS. Things like loading my carriages into the trailer, carrying a feed sack, etc are things I could do at 200# that I can't do at 113#. Also, keep riding the whole time if you can to keep your balance. I hadn't ridden in 17yrs but I now have no balance and have come off a time or 2 when the saddle shifted. The ground at 62 isn't as soft as it was at 40 even. That shouldn't be an issue since you are riding now but your balance will change as your weight does. Expect that saddle to be heavier lifting it on and off the horse.
Welcome again to the LW board. hopefully you will make this your OH home.

No pre-op diet, but I have to wait until spring break. I'm a librarian and its hard to get off work. I don't want to wait until summer (I hope to be on the road rodeoing by then - lol). I'm using Dr. Alvarez.
