It took me a long time to get my energy back....months.  I think it was because I was older when I had surgery, 54, and because I had lived such a sedentary life.  I was so weak when I showered I would have to stop and hold onto the shower bar half way through my shower.  Sometimes I had to rest just to finish dressing.  It takes time...at least it did for me.  No, you are not being a baby.  Like my OB/GYN told me when I told her I was having RNY she said it takes guts to do that to be willing to change my life.  She applauded me.  I applaud you.

Hey Angel I am sorry to hear about your complication and I am happy that you are doing better! I am going to start splitting my pills instead of crushing them.  My doctors office were the ones who told me to crush them but I literally start dry heaving when I swallow, it is terrible.  I am not hungry at all but I am missing the taste of food.  The Gum was a great idea and truly helped settle my stomach.  I did not swallow it lol.  Last night was probably the most difficult night et I had an air bubble that had me in tears I walked and walked and after an hour with no avail I called my doctor he gave me some tips and told me to use a warm towel or warm heating pad to soothe the bubble.  I was up all night and exhausted.  Because of all that I woke up feeling pretty beat up.  I think i am going to get some gas-x strips for times like that.  Does anyone else have really bad gas?  Im talking like doubled over in pain kind of gas?  What do you do to ease that?  I am not on any multivitamins or protein or anything yet which I also think is contributing to how crappy I feel.  I do have meds for the nausea but it has to be crushed so its kinda like a double edged sword.  I thank you guys so much for all of your support and advice I am trying to keep my self motivated and trying to stay positive til I start to feel better.  You guys are awesome!

Please be careful with the gum. Ask your nurse if it's acceptable.  My kaiser plan says don't eat gum, ever.  At 18 months out I tried chewing and it gave me horrible gas and bloating.  When we chew we take in air that results in gas.  Chewing also signals the body to prepare for food coming down the shoot and to get the stomach ready to digest by secreting digestive enzymes.  It may be a habit you don't want to start.

Im sorry you aren't feeling well.  My calcium is still in chewable form.  I understand about the smell of pills.  Ask for liquid meds if you can.

Bravo for following your surgeons plan.  Clearly they have a good success rate or you would not have chosen them.  You should feel much better this week.  My favorite post op beverage was sobe 0 fugi apple pear flavor. It's like diluted apple juice.  Have lots of no sugar added Popsicles.  They are each 2 oz of fluid.  We're all different. On day 5 I was on the treadmill, day 7 back to work.  I have friends that were wiped out for weeks.  I think the lesson is to not compare yourself to others.

Its a journey, and this is very normal.
Everyday is different, you will have good and bad days, so hang in there!
Keep sipping and walking. The vitamins will get easier as time goes on.

Sorry you are feeling crappy but super happy that you had your surgery and you are posting on the LW board!

I found that drinking warm broth was about the only thing I could handle at the beginning.  Cold things didn't agree with me at all.

My Dr. gave me suppositories for the nausea.  Call and ask your Surgeon or PCP if they can perscribed some for you.    I was allowed to swallow any pills/capsules that were the size of a piece of Good n Plenty candy.  My taste buds were a wreck and smells were a killer so I tried to get everything in capsule form.  Liquid meds made me gag.

I'd be afraid of gum...in fact I am over 3 years out and I still don't chew gum.  I did cheat early out and chewed beef jerky and didn't swallow it.

You shouldn't  vomit that easily so try not to be so scared of it.  If something gets stuck it will feel tight for a while but it shouldn't come back up.  If that happens just lay down for awhile and it will eventually go down.
