itchy back

So my back was itching all over...no rash...not allergy to products i use..just itchy like crazy..
I felt it was an allergic reaction...asked the board about it and then deleted the post because I thought it was silly to post about an itchy back on a WLS board. However Gina...bless her heart..saw my post before I deleted it and asked if I was taking Bcomplex....I was...and she suggested it might be the niacin in the B complex...A lightbulb went off in my head. My husband takes Niaspan and it's the same thing...he has flushes and gets itchy etc...I realized that not only was the Niacin causing me to itch ( which only began in the evening after I took my vits) but also to have what I thought were hot flashes but in fact were flushing from said Niacin....
END RESULT....no itching...I still take all my vitamins and did not just stop taking everything as I would normally have done...throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak....and I feel better...no taking the hairbrush to bed with me so I can scratch my back all night...
The lesson learned is NO QUESTION IS STUPID....take your symptoms seriously and
have a happy holiday and happy new year...THANK YOU GINA>
LOVE YOU ALL...

Another lesson:

Most of us don't need a B-complex. In particular we get plenty of B6 from other sources and it's no****er soluable so we need to be careful not to take too much.

I think it's easy with supplements to think more is better and start taking every little thing that everyone else is taking "just in case" but taking stuff you don't need just gives you expensive pee at best and side-effects at worst.

I know I got into a "must have more iron" kick because even though my ferritin was in normal range I wanted it higher and I ended up making my iron too high! Luckily it wasn't *that* high. My surgeon told me to just give blood and it would go right down. LOL But I had already cut my iron supplement in half and just got it retested so hopefully that will be enough. (Because of the holidays, my results haven't been posted online yet. Sigh.)

 Thanks Mac
Yes I think sometimes we do take too much and don't even realize it...
the itching was bad but the hot flashes were worse...
let's see how i feel from now on....at least the itching has gone away ...

Good to know.  That is one smart lady, that Gina.  I would have said dry skin.  My whole body gets really itchy when i can't get enough moisturiser on it.

All good advice from everyone.  If by chance that your level comes back low and you do need to supplement, take an aspirin before you take it and it will keep the flushing and itching at bay.  This is advice we give to our Niaspan patients.
