Hi everyone, I'm new, actually my first post here. I have scheduled my surgery with Dr. Alvarez for March 13th and I'[m scared, excited, nervous, but mostly so happy. I do have a low BMI and and I found another site and was chewed up and spit out when I tried to reach out for support and or help. My BMI is currently 31 (after Christmas will probably be 32- lol). I was beat up pretty bad because on the "other website" I guess I was not deserving of this gift. I just feel like it does not matter if your 50 lbs over weight or 100, we all are in this together. My sister's currently 150 lbs over weight and we have the same feelings towards our bodies, towards food. We have both been on the yo yo diets and have gained back all we lose. I want to know what freedom from this daily burden is going to feel like. I just wanted a place that I could come to and ask questions and read and learn all I can. March seems so far away and I just can hardly wait for the day to come. Thank you for letting me tell my story. I hope I havent stepped on any toes here. Texasgirl73
Welcome aboard! I understand 30 is the cut off in some places, so you won't get flamed here. Or, you better not. lol
What surgery are you getting? Ask any questions you can think of, we all learn from each other that way.

Welcome to the LW board...and no flaming here. If you can get the surgery as an even lighterweight, I would have too!! Thankfully I did squeak in just above the insurance cutoff of 35 BMI.

Thank you all so much, I do have so many questions but don't want to bug anyone. I'm having the sleeve done by Dr. Alvarez. One question I have is probably worry from the best failed attempts to lose weight and or keep it off. Is it harder to lose the weight starting with a lower BMI, and do you think recovery is any easier? Would love any input. Thanks so much!!
Hi TexasGirl and welcome! My surgery is this Tuesday (12/27) and I am ready and confident except for one thing. I share your worry about failed attempts to lose weight and keep it off. I have been disappointed so many times before. But I have decided just to focus on being ready for the surgery, doing everything I'm supposed to do post-op to facilitate healing, and to take it one tiny step at a time.

I think it is very individual. We lightweights just don't have much to lose so we tend to get to goal faster than some of our heavier friends. The sleeve sounds like a good choice for you. Some of our sleevers can give you a better idea about their losses but we all seem to be similar in range.
Welcome to the Lightweights. March will be here before you know it.

I am so glad you have posted this. I actually felt guilty about getting the surgery and talked to my surgeon about it. She reasured me that I deserve and need the surgery. We do....we deserve to be healthy, active, and happy! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Welcome! Good for you for taking the bull by the horns ( one Texas girl to another) and getting your obesity under control before it controls you! I have 100 lbs to lose and one of my coworkers said, "100 lbs is easy to lose. You don't need surgery.". I asked him if he ever lost that much weight and he said he had lost 50. I then asked him if gained any of it back and he said, "most of it.". My response was,"exactly!". Then I got up and and left him to think about it. Don't let anybody give you any crap.
