I would check the surgeon in London, Patel, I think. I'll get the contact info for you.

Also, check with Dr Baltasar in Spain. The European surgeons are listed in www.dsfacts.com . Baltasar is an excellent surgeon and does a modified DS on diabetic patients that are not overweight. He does only the intestinal switch for them without reducing the stomach. He's a pioneer with the DS and has done thousands. He may be your better bet for getting a DS.

Thanks Gina! The thing is I really like Dr Gagner and have total confidence in his surgical skills. I don't know if I want any other surgeon. Its not terribly rational but its how I feel. I will have a look at the ones you mention though. Maybe Gagner is simply right in my case and I should stick to the VSG...

Please talk to Dr Baltasar first before you make up your mind. He's done a lot of research on the diabetes issue and has the success stories to back him up.

My surgeon believes what WLS you get is a personal choice. Now, he isn't shy about giving his opinion but if you want a DS, he'll give you one.

Plus he has magic hands and incredible stats. Which is important in a surgeon.

You'd have to come to CA though.

Well my bmi is lower then yours.  I am currently with a failed lap band.  I am going to Dr H in Mexico after an immense amount of research.  He has done more DS then many doc in the USA.  He is highly recommended on this site.  I am self pay.  I use to have the attitude of never in regards to Mexico however I am very confident in my decision.  Like you I did the research and I found the other procedures had a lot of failure rates.  Since I already failed one I want to go with the DS as it only has a 5 percent failure read I believe is what I read but I could be wrong.  Out side the USA surgery is done often with a BMI of 30 without other dx.  I am 5 4 and my wt is 190.  I have been in contact with my surgeon and will be doing my pre op labs and go on from there.  I wish you the best and do not be hard on yourself.  I am a nurse and I have said for years if someone has not been able to keep wt off we should be allowed to save our health before severe damage has been done.  You are thinking intelligently and do not allow others to pass judgment on your situation.  No one has walked in your shoes but you.  Thank goodness it not ten years ago and we do have options.  Good luck.  Donna
