Salad advice
Starting this weekend I don't have any food restrictions left (other than the standard--little to no sugar and watch the fat & carbs) and I am desperately craving a salad...yes, that's right a salad. If I could have craved that prior to my surgery then maybe I would never have gained so much weight!
Anyway, I have heard that salad and raw veggies can be really tough for us to digest and I wondered if anyone has any advice on what type of salad "fixings" that might be good to try to start. So far I'm tolerating most meats and cooked veggies ok. Chicken and very lean ground beef so far.
Thanks!

YES!! I had the VERY same cravings ....
baby greens of any kind are fine ( and super nutritious too) ..including baby spinach . I would stick to fat free salad dressings for now because fat can make U dump ... fatfree buttermilk ranch was a favorite
and soy sauce and lemon juice ( 50/50) another . Super easy totake with U too... ( just buy the packets)
there are great fat free blue cheese and fat free ceasar dressings too out here ... YUM!! DONT forget to chew each bite thirty times to get the maximal nutrition AND make it easy to digest ..
the one thing I WOULD stay away from is oranges ... one almost got stuck in me

baby greens should be fine. Just go slow. I wouldn't add a lot of other raw veggies at once, go slow trying one at a time. I love salads and have them often.

I had my first salad yesterday. It was a Greek salad with chicken and light Italian dressing. I didn't eat very much but it was delicious! I waited a couple of hours and had a tiny bit more later. The cucumbers were such a treat. Good luck!

Hot peanut Thai dressing is also amazing especially on baby spinach ..
U can buy the mix inthe oriental section of some grocery stores . It does have a lot of sugar so don't eat a lot of it ... and i always mix it with fat free powdered milk orfatfree half n half and coconut extract as opposed to real coconut milk ...

I missed and loooooved salad, but it took a very long time before I could comfortably eat raw anything...over one year post op.
We were warned lettuce can be very, very tricky. We were also not supposed to eat but one untried food item per meal. We were told if we ate several items we had never eaten as a post op and became ill, we would not be able to clearly identify the item.
If you choose to eat salad...go very slowly. Then again, you may be one who has absolutely no problem incorporating new foods into your diet.

Funny the different responses. My office suggested crunchy veggies in preference to leafy greens, so I was on snap peas and green beans and baby carrots after about 6 weeks, but not greens until about 6 months (they said it was possible I'd just chew it into a "pad" that would get stuck in the stoma, so more fibrous things were the way to start).
I guess there are oodles of different protocols!
