Good Morning. I don't care what your NUT says....

My nut is good, and really recommend that I start eating vegetables, and something else besides protein drinks, Lactaid, and lactose-free cheese. I just wish my pouch would cooperate.  It likes pretzels and wheat thins, but I only have them once in a while.

My original nut became good after a bunch of us brought in documentation. She then left for a practice at another hospital closer to her home and paying more. The current nuts are nuhts (phonetic spelling) because they recommend simple carbs in moderation for everyone, and talk to us about how much in starches we should be getting.

I'm not going to see ANY of them.

Thanks everyone for these great posts. My surgery is still 10 days away but the pre-op diet my surgeon has me on has already shown me the effect carbs and sugar were having on me. I have been thinking that I just need to decide to quit sugar altogether. I am finding that the protein shakes keep me from getting headaches.

Does anyone know if there has been a forum here or if there is any research about people who cannot tolerate sugar and simple carbs? Is it a physiological thing?

No,there is not a forum such as that. And,yes, addiction to carbs and sugar is absolutely physiological. There is documentation that shows that the addiction to sugar is exactly the same as the addiction to cocaine! The withdrawal symptoms from sugar are exactly the same as withdrawing from cocaine, too.

Personally,I am addicted to carbs, sugar etc. The more I eat of them the more I want to eat. One bite is one too many and 10,000 bites is not enough. I pretty much have to treat them just like I would have to treat an addiction to alcohol, cigarettes,or recreational drugs. Total abstinence.

If I had one piece of advice to give you pre op,it would be stay away from carbs and sugar as long as you possible can,and try to stay away until you reach goal. I was not successful at that and at 22 months out am still trying to reach goal. I don't know at this point whether I will reach goal or not.

Good luck and keep posting,
Holly
