Welcome to the LW board, Megan...I had/have bcbstn meedicare and they quickly approved the surgery...they just balked over the surgeon. I wanted to go out of state. But yeah, with the right co-morbids, BCBS in most states and esp the federal version makes it easy to qualify.

Welcome!
I have federal BCBS and had no issues...you can actually call now and ask for their coverage for WLS surgery....our program suggested this and I found it helpful to know which surgeries were covered. Once the surgeon's office submitted the paperwork I was approved in several days. I then had to wait a LONG time to get scheduled due to my surgeon's schedule. It was worth the wait. I did have to double check as I was approved in Nov and didnt have surgery until March so I was in a new year and they required a few additional things. You shouldnt have this issue since yours wont be submitted until Feb.
Good luck and keep reading the boards.....the lightweights are VERY helpful.

Hi, I started at about the same weight as you and am just under 5'3". I don't have any insurance advice for you, but as you can see from all the responses, there are plenty of us lightweights out there who have had successful surgery and insurance approval. Please PM (private message -- go to the profile of the person you want to PM) me if you have any questions!
All the best,
