I am sorry you are having so much trouble with your NUT.  DO you have a local nutritionist - dietician that you can go to that might be able to help you?  They can be of such of good help.  Sometimes Endocrinologists office have them and they are usually familiar with Weight loss surgery, I know mine does.  I saw her preop and she was great but now I have the from my surgeons office, so I don't need the one at my Endo's office but if I need her she is there.

You dont' see anyone until October?  That seems like a long time for followup?  I went back at 2 weeks, then at 5 weeks and then at 3 months.  I had lots of questions at 5 weeks and that is when I was progressed to solids and was given a totally new food plan and additional supplements were added.

In addition to supplements - are you a PPI to prevent ulcers and reflux?  Actigall to prevent gallstones?  These are 2 meds that all post ops need to be on for atleast 6 months, preferably a year = unfortunately, I have seen many surgeons not prescribe these meds and that is when you see people coming back to the boards with problems.

I hear you about the NUT.  NUTS haven't been through the surgery and have NO idea the struggle it can be to get anything down in the first few months.  Refried beans with melted cheese and salsa were a staple for me the first few months.  Cottage cheese is fine.  Puddings - make sure they're sugar free.  Creamed soups are good too.  Lots of carbs in the above foods, but early out you're just trying to get food in you. When you get to the point where you can tolerate more solids, then you can try some meats, etc.

The Boost has a lot of sugar - and that's probably why you didn't feel good.  You dumped.  Not a good feeling.

Do what was suggested and eat what works for you and write down what she wants to see.  Actually, I just wouldn't go back.  I don't play well with people who are condescending and can't explain to me the WHY's when I ask.

Hang tough here!  You're doing a great job - really, you are.  You've had your struggles along the way.  You deserve to do what works for you!

hubby made me some homemade pudding, without aspertame, and with stevia!  he's a good man.  he made some jello with stevia, too.

i used the glucose control boost, in the diabetic isle, so i dont think it was dumping per sey.  i'm gonna try some more in a little while and see if i can handle it a bit better this time.

thanks, jody!

I take what the NUT has to say with a grain of salt..I listen to the advice of people who live through the day to day of having rny, sounds like your NUT is really nutty! Commericial baby food, umm why? that is crazy..I consumed mostly liquids for 3-4 weeks before I moved on to refried beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, and protein drinks...stayed there for a couple of weeks before I added some soft canned chicken and cheese..and I turned out okay! No baby food at that!

 thanks, aspan.

i'm trying to do what i'm told, but also listening to my body and TRYING to use common sense.  thats hard when given a lot of conflicting advice and am not sure whats what as far as being new out and unsure of how my new body works yet.

I ate baby food once and I swore I would never touch that stuff again.  Yuck!
Five protein drinks a day?  Is she on drugs?  Can you find another NUT?  I saw my NUT maybe 3 times, before each stage progression.  Fortunately the food plan was pretty reasonable and varied so I didn't have a problem sticking with it but if it wasn't I would have done something else.  You do what you have to do and tell them what they want to hear.  My surgeon's NP pushes Flintstone vitamins and is freaking out because my D level is 87.  She has never seen a bariatric patient with a D level so high.  No wonder with the bad advice they give.  I just smile and nod and do what works for me.

there are only 2 NUTs here, and they both follow the same plan, of course.  my friend really didnt like the other one- i wonder why???  cant be much worse than this one!  i may try the other NUT in the bariatric unit.

here, we are SUPPOSED to see the NUTs at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 18 months and then yearly for life.  maybe she will retire young or move or something--- or i will move to new mexico soon, lol (my dream!)

Wow I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.....I don't have to see a NUT and in fact I haven't met with one since right before surgery and I only have to see one if I want!  The questions for me at my F/U appts are always with the NP or surgeon.  I tell them what I eat and they tell me to make sure I get my protein in first and watch the carbs and high calorie items.  They don't ever lecture me because in there eyes I'm a success either way.  I have been very vocal to all whom I deal with that I didn't have this surgery to not enjoy life and good food......I had it so I could enjoy all those things I love in moderation!  BTW most of the staff at my surgeons office has had bariatric surgery..so..... That said.......
I had a hard time getting my fluids in and couldn't find much of anything I enjoyed food wise in the purred stage other than cottage cheese and yogurt.....so I had those when I wanted to EAT something otherwise I lived off SYNTRAX NECTAR...I couldn't do the "milky RTD or self mix shakes"  But what I could do is mix up a big ol bottle of water with SN lemon tea and a packet of lemonade and suck that down all day.......I've recently discovered I like the SN lemonade with a shot of raspberry SF Torani syrup!  Just like a raspberry lemonade.....The SN powders are much tamer and not as heavy......I drank that for almost 2 weeks straight.....I got my protein in and my fluids.....and that was my biggest concern so early out....you do what works for you....

This is the healthcare worker in me....(GINA....plug your ears....LOL) my only suggestion to you is this.......DO NOT PROGRESS in food stages......there is a reason why they don't want you to advance from liquids to pureed to solids to dense proteins to soon.....you could blow your staple line for starters.....not all surgeons perform surgery exactly the same way so that could explain why there are so many different plans.....but that is just one reason...It could also have to do with the tiny swollen digestive tract and the sensation of being full for far to long which in turn can cause you to not WANT to ingest anything for HOURS including your fluids.......I've seen many people in my line of work who eat the wrong thing too soon and wind up blowing a staple line and end up in the ICU with a perforated remnant and sepsis......NOT FUN......those are the horror stories....

wow, amazing!  we- those in my plan- are supposed to see them regularly!  at 3, 6 months, 1 year, 18 months and then yearly!

i like that your team consists of people who have been there!  they can totally understand your needs.  i feel like i am spoken down to by my NUT- and only her- and she is the one *****ally is supposed to guide me down this path.  she has yet to *teach* me anything, just order me around and lecture me about not hurting myself, but cant/wont teach me the whys of each stage and why some food cant be eaten.  like cottage cheese.  i asked why and she said "its not in the book"

now- i like and understand when you EXPLAIN to me that not every surgeon performs the surgery the same way!  that really could explain the different plans better than anything... maybe, lol.

so, the refried beans- i pureed them in my magic bullet, did not eat any chunks left behind, and thinned it down so that it was soupy.  BUT, the fiber is more dense than other proteins (right?) so it still would not be a good idea, even with my so-called precautions...

thanks for the explanations, hon ;-)

Here is the diet my surgeon prescribes.....www.bakerbariatrics.com/postop.htm...I did my best to stay within these guidelines.....but like I said it was so hard to EAT that I pretty much drank my way to solids.....LOL  I do remember them telling me @ my 1month F/U that I could eat refried beans because I couldnt get myself to swallow pureed meats.....(I WAS SO AFRAID)....BUT...they still wanted me to TRY meats daily....That wasn't until I was at the pureed stage tho.....my SURGEON allowed me to eat yogurt (NO chunks) and PUREED cottage cheese when I was 2 1/2 weeks out because he felt I was getting enough fluids in by then.....Which if I remember correctly is why he has people on liquids for 3 weeks.....if you can't get in the required liquids then you will become dehydrated....if you EAT pureed or thicker foods then you FILL your pouch for hours at which point you will not drink because you FEEL full and get dehydrated......and dehydrated body doesn't heal properly.....

You should let your nurse AND surgeon know that the nut was unable to answer some of your questions and you'd like them answered.  If they are unwilling to provide you with answers contact the patient care advocate since it is your right to know!  IMO many of these "lists" are created based on PATIENT feedback.......and they only change when people let them know and they see it works...but NUTS are very regimented in trying to teach us to eat like normies but we aren't ready for that until we are several years out.....
