I think I have worked out why I'm so tired.

Hi guys,

I'm still tired as all hell and I am fairly low in Ferritin (Iron) and struggle to get through a day at work.  I can't even think clearly these days and that's a problem when I handle $4.8 million dollars in accounts.  My best friend reminded me that as I had my first revision surgery as a VSG over 4 years ago and over here I was not told to use supplements other than a daily multi-vitamin is it any wonder my body is depleted from it's vital nutrients.  I didn't even think of the last four years, all I was thinking of was since I had this revision surgery RNY and thinking this had made me feel so ****  But it's not.  It's just a long term problem since my VSG so now I have to get my ass into gear and try and gain back my nutrition and fast before I forget how to do my job. :)

I got my Tender Iron today from Vitalady and from what I can work out on the RNY schedule I am to take 6 Tendor Iron capsules per day, does this sound right to you guys? I'm also taking 5200mg of Biotin, Calcium with Vitamin D, B12, Multivitamin and I take this fabulous powder called "Vital Greens"

http://www.vitalgreens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=59&Itemid=66

I also try to have 2 -3 GNC Protein shakes per day but I have to admit I am struggling with these.

My weight hasn't dropped much and I think this week it's even gone up a couple of ponds but I'm a stress eater and had far too many chips/crisps while at work. :(  I need to get that area under check real fast.

Any other suggestions for what I should be doing or taking most welcome.

Cheers from Karin (in Oz)

Karin two suggestions for effectively substituting the at work snack foods -

Pringles  FAT FREE   potato chips  when ya just gotta have a chip ...

and air popped popcorn

the besy wayto make the tastiest air popped popcorn is to TOAST The organic  if you can get em ) kernels FIRST in a pan when U get the bag  on very high heatstirring  until they are well  browned (  toast until they start to pop ...)    allow to cool then put in a jar.

Air pop as usual .   Gives the corn a nuttier   , fullertaste  so U dont need salt /  butterbuds  as  much or often .

also  for me a few  well chewed  baby carrots with  fatfree greek yogurt based  dip  really work well.

as does  fruit

working at a desk all day is TOUGH  .    I like  to make a protein coffee  in the afternoon and START my day withtwo protein teas or protein coffees ....  the whey basedprotein really helps  control my  grazing urges .

Exercising first thing in the morning or on Ur lunch hour is also  is a GREAT appetite suppressant ... I used to WALK  fast  for an hour and window shop then eat a tiny box oftake out sushi at my desk  5 minutes before lunch was over ... lifted  my mood and  made me feel so much less hungry the  rest of the afternoon .    I very often had companions too  ...  after  differnt  people  caught onto what I was doing ... it was FUN .

Thanks for that idea I used to love pop corn but it was always the bad type like at the movies. Heaps of butter and salt.  Over here in Australia they used to sell air popped popcorn but I haven't seen it now on the shelves for a long time.  I have a great health food shop near by so I'll go and see if they sell the organic type.  I'm a terrible snacker and that's why I've struggled with my weight as I love savoury foods.

wow ready -made air popped fat free popcorn in a snack sizedbag ?

Ecccc h U Aussies  are so much smarter than us !   U can  find cool  fat free  snack foods  in Europe  too  like U cant here  ...

I just buy an air popper from walmart  and make it myself   .... if the noise bothers Ur office U might haveto  make Urs at home  or find a  supply closet  with a copier in it lol ...

but its sure is a high fiber  whole grain  food  and  U can get an AMAZING volume of satisfying  snack  out of a small handful of corn which   is  only a couple of hundred  calories  total ....

Tie  me to a desk  I snack too  ...  its funny   PART  of it was  a habit .    It took a LONG  Time to get over that  part (  wanting  to ingest SOMETHING  as i was  writing / reading / working  ) but  after a while i finally FORGOT  to  overeat  beacsue i was no longer HUNGRY lol  ....

Until then  air popped popcorn was my  main snack  ... and  it never slowed my weight loss .  Funny  Ive just  about given it up now  ..  but it took YEARS - it was  like a security blanket lol .

It took me about 6 months to start feeling "like me" and that's also about the time I found a Protein drink that I could tolerate.

Popcorn is a great snack and you get so much of it for a few calories.

I think you want 2 or maybe 3 of the Tender iron capsules. They're 60mg each of carbonyl iron. Start one capsule every 2 or 3 days until you get to all 3. I wouldn't try to take them all on the very first day. The other thing I'd check would be Proferrin (heme) iron. See if it's available there. You could add 1 Proferrin at some point in your daily schedule. You just snap it into 2 pieces and take them together. Take it away from the Tender iron.

I have recently started taking my B12 in a (prescription) nasal spray, and I have seen a major improvement in my energy and mood.  I've heard of people reporting those effects from their monthly B12 injections and always assumed it was a placebo effect.  But now that I've had it for myself, I'm hooked.  I like it much better than the subligual.  I don't know how you are taking your B12, but it might be worth a try.

Karin, as you increase your iron, be sure to add lots of water and magnesium (Gina, is that it? please chime in) so you don't get constipated.

Yep, magnesium oxide to help you poo and magnesium citrate (not the liquid) to help you absorb calcium and stop leg cramps.

Proferrin causes no constipation issues. It's heme iron...like eating liver.
