I have a history of high blood pressure, but I've been off meds for about 3 years now and BP is pretty good. I have elevated triglycerides, but my cholesterol is ok. I have stress incontinence and have had surgery for this issue, still unresolved. back, knee, and hip pain which I take Mmotrin daily for. GERD which I treat. I am going to talk to my PCP about having a sleep study done, but my insurance (BCBS FED) requires if you are under BMI of 40 that you have 2 co-morbidities. Worried I wont qualify for the surgery. I see my dad's side of he family (I favor their frame) and they are MO and unhealthy...I don't want to get to that point. Any words of encouragement? Had my initial consultation with the surgeon this past Tues, and he thought my BMI was not high enough to be approved, but they are having me do the labs, NUT, and psych.
The sleep study is a great idea to pursue. That would be a huge comorbidity. Having the labs redone is also a good idea as they may show high BP or cholesterol or pre diabetes, you never know. Wishing you good luck getting your comorbidities documented.

The whole co-morbidities issue can be a bear. My insurance wouldn't count my high blood pressure, for example, because it was well controlled by medicine. Only uncontrolled hbp counted.
Sleep apnea and diabetes are two that always count for every insurance.
The other stuff might count or might not... just depends on both the insurance and who at the company reviews your file.

Thank you all so much for the support!
I sched. my psych for tomorrow, labs and Gallbladder US for next monday, and NUT couldnt sched. until Sept, but I think that will be ok. That will give me time to get a sleep study done. I just really REALLY want this for myself, and I know I can't self pay. Hoping that it works out for me...otherwise I will be back here in a decade with all the comorbidities they can handle and a BMI to match.

I am hoping to get in with my PCP and be referred for a sleep study. I have woken myself up snoring, and my hubby says I do - but sometimes it's worse than others. (I sleep sitting up almost because I breathe better that way) Hoping I can come up with the co-morbisities to be approved. You're right...it seems strange hoping for bad news, but that's the name of the game I suppose. Thank you all for your support and responses! I got through the Psych appt and she approved me. So that's one more tick mark. Labs and Gallbladder US are on Monday. NUT appt isnt until Sept 12th because I have to pay out of pocket for her, and I'm going out of state in Aug. Thank you all again!!
