Hi, I'm Sandy.  48 year old wife of 25 years to my highschool sweetheart with a 21 yo boy and 18 yo daughter who will both be in university this fall.  I live in a small town in Ontario Canada and have worked in accounting at the same company for 24 years.

I had a vsg in Sept 09.  I chose the VSG as my biggest problem was always being hungry.  Eliminating 85% of my stomach and the grehlin (hunger causing hormone) has made weight loss easy for me.  I have lost 89 lbs and have 5 more to get to my goal of 153.  I am 5' 7.5".  I love my surgery and OH!

Great Idea Gina!!

Hi All, my name is Holly but here on OH I am dznydiva, that is pretty self explainitory... I love Disney.  The parks, movies etc.  We try to go about every other year and I can't wait to go on our next trip and not have to worry about fitting on any rides!!!!  Not to mention the airplane seats. :o)

I chose to have lap RNY because I have PCOS and it causes me to have major issues with insulin resistance and metabolism.  I had surgery 4-30-10.  I have lost a total of 40lbs.  That includeds the preop diet.  I love my RYN.  It feels great to be doing something for myself that also helps my family.

I am married to my Church Camp Sweetheart.  We have been together for 21 years and will be celebrating our 15 year anniversay in October!  We have 2 children our son is 11 and has Asperger's syndrome ( autism spectrum ) I homeschool him, and our daughter is 9, she thinks she is a Diva already it's gotta be the red hair. We have 2 Havanese dogs Zippy and Bella, they are too cute.  They all keep me a very busy stay at home Mom.  We are in the process of opening our own online business, vinyl wall words and sayings.  We live in the Seattle area and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Forgot to mention my age... I am 37.

I am so thankful for this site and for the LWs out there... you help me keep strong.

A dream is a wish your heart makes!   DznyDiva

Hi everyone,
My name is Gillian and I am 28 years old and live in a suburb of Detroit Michigan.  I had RNY just over 6 months ago and have lost somewhere between 80-90 pounds (although I only get on the scale when I see the doctor or NUT, so I don't have exact numbers here.)  I do know that I've gone from a tight size 20W to a loose 12 which makes me very happy.

I teach 8th grade English at a charter school in Detroit, which, if nothing else keeps me moving all day.  I'm looking forward to my first post-RNY summer and getting to spend lots of time outside.

However, what I am most excited about post-RNY is getting back into figure skating.  In 2005 and 2006 I was part of the national champion Adult sychronized skating team, and one of my old coaches is starting a new team and I am looking forward to joining and looking great in my skating dress (and not being able to pick myself out on the video because I am the heaviest one!)  The season starts  at the begging of July so I'm very excited!  Once I get back in the groove of sychronized skating, I hope to start competing in adult singles competitions as well.

Nice to meet you. We have a couple of ice skaters on the LW board. MacMadame is one and I know there are one or two more.

I love skating - and just started back at lessons!  Never made it to a synchro team (although DD did it in middle school), but was doing a couple jumps and spins 18 years ago... then had to stop due to work schedules.  Tried starting up again a couple times when I was heavy, but it was very difficult.

Skating is a WHOLE different sport when your center of gravity is close in, rather than hanging out like the rings of saturn as mine was!  I can't wait to work back up to where I was!

Are you in the Chicago area?  I'm pretty sure there are a couple of 'Adult Open' (i.e. adult begginner) sychro teams around.  I like the team thing because it means that you pretty much have coaching the entire time you're on the ice and this means more hard work.
For me the biggest change on the ice has been in my feet!  My skates used to hurt so much I needed an ibprophen to get through a practice.  I was worried going back to skate after surgery, but that little bit of weight I've lost in my feet makes all the difference!

Yes, up NW of the city.  It's tempting - but I suspect I have to get over my new fear of 3-turns and skating backwards before I do that!  Soon, though!

I know - when I tried skating last year, I had to have the toe box bumped out significantly on both sides of both feet (and they tried selling me new skates with a differently shaped toe box - hey, I've got good, expensive skates, and I was NOT going to trade them in for peanuts because my feet got fat!).  This year, even though the bump outs were no longer out, my feet are very happy in them.

What team do you skate with?  I'll look for you online!

As a kid and in 2005-06 I skated for Team Elan at the Detroit Skating Club(DSC).  After the 2006 season, the franchise sort of collapsed so I skated for the the 2007 season I skated for the Crystallettes Adult team.  Now, I'm back at DSC skating for Evolution.

Maybe I'll post a link if our programs end up on youtube once we get into the season.  We're just doing skills for the summer, and the season won't start until the Ann Arbor in December.

Sounds like fun - I think it was the coaches of the Crystallettes who came down to St. Louis about 12 years ago and did a synchro seminar across 3 days that DD attended - if so, they were VERY nice.

I checked, and it looks like Chicago Jazz would be my closest adult open, and one of their coaches was my first adult instructor, so when I get over my fears, I'm sure I'll be calling!
