Pulse in abdomen

I was laying on my back with my hands over my stomach and noticed I felt my pulse in by abdomen (above my belly button).   Can others feel this?  I've been fat for so long I'm not sure if we should be able to feel it or not.  I can only feel it when I am laying down and all my loose skin/fat goes to the side.

Thanks,
Julie

I think I know what you are describing. I tend to refer to mine more as a spasm rather than a pulse. I have also felt mine when standing and sitting. Do you think that this could be the same thing?

It probably is. I have an appointment with my PCP on Tuesday so I'm going to ask her about it.

Please let me know what your PCP says.

I would imagine that you are feeling the pulse from your aorta, which is a huge vessel that comes down out of the heart to supply blood to the lower parts of the body.  It's funny isn't it, feeling parts of our bodies that we forgot was there?  I'm always amazed when I run my hand up over my throat and find a hard bone there....lol  My collar bone, long forgotten I had:-)

Hi,  an abdominal pulse is also a symptom of an aortic aneurysm,  so getting it checked out with your MD is probably a good idea.  Corinne

I have also noticed this ....from day 10 of my surgery ( 5 years ago) and still feel it. It seems more prominate to me when I have just eaten or had too much fat/sugar/carbs.

I had the gas bypass
hope we are ok...lol

Just home from doctor.  I have an ultrasound scheduled for 2:30 today. The doctor said she doesn't hear anything that would indicate an aneurysm but the pulse is very strong for that area and she wants to do an ultrasound to rule out an aneurysm or other abnormality.

I felt it too.  I asked my surgeon about it and he said that it's normal.

Do update on the ultrasound though.  I'd be interested to know since it totally freaked me out how strong it is, but I was told it was normal, so I haven't made another thought of it.
