hi: this discussion came up on R&R so we thought we'd do an informal poll.

One person's nutritionist told her that most people wind up at whatever weight they were when they were about 16 or so.

I've noticed in real life that that seems to be true for people who gained most of their weight AFTER high school, but I don't think it can really apply to people who have been MO their entire lives.

So, WLS grads, did your post wls body settle at about where you were in high school?

my rny husband's did, almost exactly.
me, I'm close but need to lose a few more to be where I was then. but it is close for me.

thanks for any replies!

I am one of the people that did not get heavy until my late 30's.  And yes I now weigh the same as I did at 16.  Which I think is too thin, but maybe where I am to stay.

NOPE!  I'm actually 70 pounds lighter than my high school graduation and I wore an 18 then and I'm a 10 now...he, he,he!  I started getting seriously overweight about 20 seconds after birth (weighed in at almost 11 pounds, mom was diabetic) and struggled almost my entire life with thyroid disease, PCOS and obesity.  I often daydream about how differently my life would have been if I were a normal size growing up, but the life lessons I've learned are valuable.

congratulations!!!  but see, I think you fall under the exception rule of my stupid theory. i think lifelong medical conditions are totally different.

Hmmm, curious.  I would say my weight is the same as it was then, maybe 5 pounds higher.  My clothing size is smaller though, although I guess that could just be the general change in the way manufacturers size their clothing.

see, i've avoided scales my whole life and the clothing sizes are so screwy, it is hard to tell isn't it!

I started to gain around age 25, but got really heavy in my 30's. I'm now about what I was in high school, just a little bit lighter~5 to 10lbs depending on the day~so that's pretty darn close! Interesting topic!!!!!!

we are going to have to give Amanda's nutritionist credit for possibly being on to something here.

I'm 20 lbs heavier now than at 16...but people tell me I look just like I did in highschool or they say I look "how they remember me"....If I got all my loose skin removed, I'd weigh real close to what I did at 16.  I was 145 lbs at 16 and weigh 165 now...I went on a serious diet at 16 and weighed 103 by the time I was 17....and slowly went back to 140's by the time I was 20...And that's when all the diets and gaining and losing and gaining more all started....

I'm one that gained after HS...after pregnancy but always struggled with being plump or bigger than most girls my age. I look back now and I can't believe I thought I was fat...or that my family teased me to death.  I knew I was heavier than other girls by the time I was in the second grade....but I was not fat at all...not like I thought I was...Probably why I still have a warped/skewed image of myself....

But NO...I do not have my 16 year old body...everything is at least 2 inches lower than where it used to be!  LOL

LOL! youth is so wasted on the young!

I know what you mean about always feeling fat and now looking at those pictures and thinking I'd take that body in a New York minute! I remember my Mom telling me that she would never have allowed herself to get above 135 pounds when I was in high school and probably 140. weight issues, blah!

thanks for replying to my unscientific poll!
