hit the floor
Last night both my children was here. So I thought I would cook for them. I was cooking and all of a sudden I started seeing like spots of lights and I could hear my hearing going. The next thing I knew my daughter had the fan on me and I was drenched. And layed out on the floor. I thought my sugar had dropped and are a spoon full of carmal inc cream topping. It was all I had that had sugar in it. Then after a while I was fine. The doctor wants me to add some sugar to my diet. But I dump on anything over 3 grams of sugar. I am 3 years and 3 months out. Has anyone of you had this problem. I have never been dibetic. And have not passed all the way out in a while. What can I eat to get in sugar without making me dump???

Could you have reactive hypoglycemia? I get the shakes, sweating and a funny sense of reality. I have never fainted; however, I do not treat the symptons with sugar. If this is the case for you (I am medically trained) you need protein. I eat peanut butter, cottage cheese or nuts during this situation. I usually have cottage cheese or peanut butter, as I am usually trying to get this food into my system as fast as possible. I have trouble with food getting stuck and having to vomit the plug up. The smoother proteins get into my system faster and recitfy my sugar woes. You may want to ask your doc about this, as many gastric-bypass patients find themselves with this diagnosis. Good luck.
I really don't get in much protein. That could have been my problem. I love peanut butter. I thought I was doing better until that happen yesterday. I think I am trying to hard. When it is time to eat I get all worked up. Is this good for me? If I eat this will I gain to much weight back? Alot goes through my head. I need to relax and stop worring to much. Thanks for the reply.

One thing that really struck me was that you said you don't get in much protein. Why not? That is one of the MOST important things we need to do for ourselves, that and water. I think being thin is wonderful, but sounds like you are not eating what you need to be eating for good health.
Do you use protein shakes? I will be three years post-op in December and I drink 2-3 protein shakes a day - every day -- sometimes more. I don't know why you dump on almost everything you eat -- but maybe the protein will help. Your body needs it. Good luck and take care.

The only protein I get is from thin sliced deli turkey and swiss on wheat wrap or wheat bread. And once in a while I will eat deli chicken. I don't drink any protein shakes. They tried several at the hospital and I throwed them back up. I hate milk. I can eat swiss cheese but the yellow cheese has more oil than cheese and they make me sick. Seems like the only thing that don't make me sick is breads. I love bread. I do eat veggies. Love carrots, corn, most every veggie I like, I don't eat sugar or anything that has salt. So I have to take soidum tablets. I have no vitamin c. I take 4,000 units of that. My body don't know what the hell is going on. One day I eat to much then the other day I don't eat anything. No wonder every thing makes me sick. If I have a busy day I don't eat because I don't want to have to stop and lay down. The old body is wore out. And I did it all to myself. Nobody but me to blame. I don't know if people with anorexia fully recover but I am trying.
Since you're so far out, you might want to try protein shakes again. I couldn't tolerate them either and now I'd rather have a shake than anything else. I don't use regular milk. I use light Silk soy milk and I really like it. My tastes have changed tremendously and maybe yours have as well. Good luck with this. Please get in some protein.
Hi Amy!
Please do not ignore this - it's easy to think later "well I feel ok now" and just forget about it - until it happens again. I suggest that you consult a nutritionist because you need to know how to keep your blood sugar at a steady, safe level (we ALL need to know this).
Your body converts the food you eat into blood sugar - but you don't necessarily want to eat table sugar to do that (other than an emergency like you had). Table sugar digests very quickly and hits our systems hard - often with the familiar dumping afterwards. But proteins and carbs digest more deliberately, with more staying power, to keep our blood sugar levels steady.
I also have to watch this because I get the shakes easily, then start sweating, then start feeling like I'm going to pass out. I usually eat a little piece of cheese or something similar that will "stick with me" and digest more slowly than table sugar. You may need to work in extra snacks/meals throughout the day on a routine basis, to keep your blood levels STEADY. That's the key. These extra meals can be very small, but nutritious.
If you can't possibly see a nutritionist, go to the library and read up on it because we have very special dietary needs and we each need to become our own expert on things like this, just for survival! But a good nutritionist can teach you some hints that will make things easier.
Take care,
Kitty

I dump on almost every thing I eat. Sometime I just say the hell with it and don't eat at all. I can smell a sweet candle burning and get sick. Seems like my smelling and hearing has got way,way good. Sounds so weird...I am going to go today and get some protein bars that are not loaded with sugar. Most of them have over 3 grams of sugar and makes me sick. I know I gotta eat but I don't. I am scared this will happen when I am home alone. My children try not to leave me alone. I feel like I am taking them away from their lives. I am just so bumbed out. Very tired. I feel like I have been fighting this for so long now. In and out of the hospital. Go to see my phych dr. every week. I don't know if this was worth all of this crap I have through. I am not sure if I could go back if I would do this again. The doctor told me over a year ago that I need to get my gastric bypass undone. I told him no I would die first. Some time I get what I ask for.. I said I would die to be skinny. I am now kicking my own ass for saying that. Thanks for the help. I am going t try and be good today and eat and eat the right foods.
