I had the VSG and lost over 100%.  My BMI is normal and I still feel great, two years later!

The VSG has no long term data. Some initial studies show that the initial weight loss of the VSG is equal to the RNY. You can read my profile, I believe i have a few of the studies there....

PS i had the DS and lost 103% of my excess weight just over 300 lbs.

I think I have lost over 100% with a RNY...not sure how to calculate it...whatever it is...I am happy I did it!
Was 243+
(initial goal was 130 and I am now 117.)

I've lost over 100% of my excess weight.  I had a proximal RNY, almost 4 years post-op.

I had RNY a little over 2 years ago. My biggest was 340, I was 310 on surgery day, and I lost down to about 130 (I go between 128 and 135). Maintenance so far has been fairly easy, but I have to be conscious about what I eat and put in some good work-outs. Good luck with your decision-making, I know it's tough.

Ok, I am the 'bad apple' LOL
I have lost about 45% in a year with the bypass, it has been 6 months I have not lost anything, BUT am not gaining either and overall am happy about the surgery and the outcome so far (I'd like to lose another 20-30lbs).  I have to say I have been bad in the way that I have never watched what I eat but 'hell, do I feel good or what?', for the first time in my life food has not been on my mind!  Ok, if I want to lose the other 65% I think I will have to look at what I eat

((IW-AW)/IW) * 100= weight loss percentage

In this formula IW is your initial weight and AW is your actual weight at this point.
It's not as complicated as it initially seems: practically all you do is subtract the actual weight from the initial weight and divide the number obtained by your initial weight. Multiply the result with 100 and you'll get the exact percent.

315 (IW) -165 (AW) = 150 lbs lost  divided by 315 (IW)= 0.476(blah blah blah)  =47 % body weight lost.   But I have no idea how to figure out excess body weight...I am still considered overweight!

I lost 150 lbs and I am THRILLED with my results...

Thanks! This helps to have for future calculations - I hope I'm as successful as you, but like Violinplayer I think (& hope) I'll be enthusiastic about any success.
