Info for anyone who would like to get rid of extra skin.

I was told by my Sister-in-law, whose Aunt had WLS that her Aunt's surgeon told her that if you go to any Burn Center through out the United States they will take the extra skin we have for donations for burn victims. The scar that is left is hardly visible, they are trained in removing skin from burn victims and replacing it better than any surgeon. I was told you can call your nearest Burn Center and find out whether they take donations. I myself am not sure about doing this, but if anyone here is interested let us know if you do find out anything. Someone might not have the money or Insurance to have cosmetic surgery, and find that this was an option.

Someone told someone who told someone that we can get PS for free if we donat.
Not factual.
I do know of a PS that will remove the skin and then donate it to a center that can test it and process it for burn victims but the PS that is done is still done at your expense. The donation is just that...a donation. The PS is not free or discounted because of this.

yeah......it wont' happen. From my understanding burn centers cannot provide this service because it equates to buying Human organs which is illegal. I have NO IDEA WHY this would be illegal...my skin went into the garbage...i would have much rather it been removed to go to a burn center. There is an organization out there that will take donated skin, but honestly after fighting with my insurance company for a year over plastics, and getting a date 2 weeks after approval, I just didn't have time or energy to look for that groups info.

The burn center only uses pig's skin, cadaver skin-removed from donor shortly after death, and skin grafts from the patients. My husband received pig's skin and he has no scarring from his burns.
Just wanted to share.
