Hi. Thanks for the post. i am new to this site, so I hope you get this reply....and if there is another way to comunicate let me know. Let's see....for starters what led me to the stomaphyx procedure..... I had a gastric bypass in October of 2001. I lost 150 pounds by the end of 2002. 14 months later I was weighing in at 135 pounds. A number I NEVER had seen on a scale of mine!!! The weight came off so quickly, and I did nothing. Unfortunayely nothing included no behavior modification, dietician, or therapy. And as days turned to weeks, then months and eventually years the weight came back. It seemed to really get bad the last 2 years, although I have been struggling for about 3 1/2 years. 80 pounds later....enter the stomaphyx procedure. I did pay cash. I had the procedure done at Vist Hospital. They are WONDERFUL. The hospital isn't the most beautiful, and it's in a terrible area (my husband had to go 5 miles for something american to eat) but the nurses and care was more than I could have ever asked for. The cost was 9,700. I am one week out and down 10 pounds. Its very different than the by-pass. I am going to have to work at this. I miss food. I think I am hungry and need to eat so I am having to really think about it. I do feel full fast. But no dumping and I can eat anything without trouble so far. One day at a time. I'd love to find someone 6 or so months out. It's very new here, so I might end up being one of the first and have to go it without the support of others who have been down this road before me. I guess the flip side of that is I can help you!!!! Let me know if I can. Keep me posted and let me know your story if you don't mind. I look forward to hearing back from you~ -Rebecca

Hi Rebecca

sorry I haven't had the stomaphyx either, but am interested. Is the Vist Hopital near Dallas?  What was it like, can you only eat reduced portions now, I'd love to hear more about your experiences.

I had rny may 06 but have never reached my goal, so am totally frustrated, and need some help.

Hope you are doing well, and look forward to hearing from you.  You can either post a reply here or you can contact people directly by clicking on the contact button at the bottom of peoples post.  I'll do that to you so you can see how it works...

Hi Ruth! Thanks for the tip on how to reply....I don't mind keeping things out there. Maybe someone will read and learn something, or gain something from an experience I have had~ This site seems to be a great place to network with others that have struggled with obesity. As for my stomaphyx Vista Hospital is in Garland. The hospital was WONDERFUL. It's in a rather bad area, but once your in....DON'T GO OUT!!! LOL!! The stomaphyx was easy easy. They go through your mouth, and you have NOTHING to heal on the outside!! I stayed overnight and they kept me pretty loaded on Demerol. I took pain medicine (Darvocet) the first day home, ever 4 hours 2 pills, cut it down to 1 every 6-8 hours the second day (just to be safe more than anything) and by Thusday I was off all pain medicine, and could have EASILY gone back to work Friday. I feel very different than I did with the RNY. No dumping and I can tollerate all liquids at this point. Clear and cloudy. I lost 10 pounds my first week. My doc keeps me on a very limited diet for the first month. But at this point I can report no trouble AT ALL. I feel full very fast, alot like the RNY, but its different. I have to pay more attention. I think this time around I will have to participate MUCH MUCH more. Where do you live? And, who did your RNY? How much have you lost? And, have you gained any back?? I look forwrd to hearing back from you~ -Rebecca

Hi Rebecca

Actually I used to live in Garland!!!  No offence taken though hehe...  Moved back to the UK 5 years ago.  I self paid and had my rny in Belgium - it's pratically impossible to have it paid for here.  Hmm...keep in touch and let me know how it goes and I may well be paying your doc a visit in December!!!

Hey there!  I haven't had the Stomaphyx, my revision was VBG to RNY.  However I wanted to let you know we have a North Texas/Collin County support group you may want to check out.  I know it's a little bit from Lake Dallas, but we are meeting this coming Sat morning at the IKEA cafe at 121 and the Dallas Tollway.  We meet at 9:30 am when the cafe opens up and stay as long as everyone wants to.

We meet a couple times a month, and there are a bunch of other DFW area groups on the Texas board too.  Come check out the Texas board, would love to see you on Sat.
