have had a pretty bad week tummy wise.  Right now I dont have  much of an
appetite which is good...I gained some on vacation and am wanting to  get rid
of it--but twice this week had horrible abdominal pain that felt like I  really
needed to to go the restroom and had little if anything happen.  The  very
intense cramping would lessen a little big but still have cramping. Feels  like
in between menstrual cramps and labor. When it is not cramping it  feels very
tender and bruised. I can get through these by taking pain med  and an Ambien
but dont think that is the best plan.  I have been such a  pest to my doc that
I just dont want to go through all this craziness and still  have something
he cant figure out.  Would appreciate input, and  support.  The pain is now
pretty much over my whole tummy and even in my  back when its worse. At its worse
I want to just crawl into the fetal  position.  I have come up with this way
to deal with the pain but worry  that if it is some kind of obstruction I won't
know....Another description is  how your tummy feels when you really needs to
go to the restroom and know it  will relieve the pain.  That is mine, but
then nothing happens except may a  couple little rabbit turds.

Now it is Sunday and my pain is lessened but my stools are weird...like grains of sand and some film on the water.  Typically my pain is worse at night although yesterdays episode was all day.

I am almost 5 years post op.  My surgeon has tried hard to figure this out and even sent me to Mayo.  This cramping is kind fo a new thing.

The pain sounds like gallbladder, but I assume you either don't have one anymore or they have already checked for that.  I had pain very similar to this when my colitits would flare up. I would feel the need to go to the bathroom but nothing would happen, I would suffer until my bowels would finally move. Have they checked you for anything like colitis or diverticulitis? I hope they find out what is wrong soon.

I'm 7 years post op.  The worst pain of my life was from bowel obstruction - which - from your description - you could possibly have.

It may be something simple, but I can tell you, it would be wiser to get checked out ASAP.  By going to the ER they would be able to run all the tests necessary -QUICKLY that would determine if, indeed, you DO have an obstruction or not.  If you go to the doc 1st he'd have to send you anyway...

You're online anyway, research "Bowel obstruction symptoms" and then read the "mortality rate" for such - you'll be shocked - it's 28%!!!  This is nothing to mess around with - nor hesitate about.  Your body is worth getting it checked out!!!  Now...

Let us know...

I had this, and it was a BOWEL OBSTRUCTION! Go to the ER NOW!!!!
I can't beleive you are waiting. This can be a life or death situation. I am 3 yrs out, time has nothing to do with it. Anyone who has abdominal surgery can have an obstruction.

Curious to see how you made out Alice.  I have been having the same kind of pain for about 10 days now.  All tests are negative but it feels like someone wrung out my intestines to dry when it happens.  It is episodic but it hits me like a ton of bricks right in my upper left quadrant and straight thru to my back.  Only thing that helps is lying flat and still.  Better yet to lie flat face down on a hard surface.  When it subsides I feel raw, burning, irritated intestinal pain for hours or more.  I am going back for follow up with the surgeon today and hope she has a solution or plan.  It feels like I did when I had an internal hernia about 2 years ago so I am worried about partial bowel obstruction too even though it doesn't show on the tests.  I think by the time they get to do the CT scan I have been laying down so long in the ER it resolves itself and doesn't show.  Yet the pain episodes persist.   I have been pretty much on liquids for the last ten days.  Eating any solds tends to aggravate it so I have stayed away from them even though I feel hungry after a few days of just the liquids and want to eat something.  I have lost about 6 lbs and really don't want to lose any more and can't imagine going on like this long term.
