I have noticed since I have lost alot of my "cushion" that my bottom hurts really badly when I sit for a while.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Does it get better?  What can you do?

I experienced the same thing, it did eventually go away, I guess some of my body fat redistributed itself because I had lost some more weight and have not gained. I am 2.5 years post op and I would guess it is about a year since I had that problem. They do sell special cushions that have an area cut out in the back of it for where your ****yx bone(tail bone) sits so you wouldn't have the pressure when sitting,. I never bought one myself.

Thanks, Sher.  My problem has been going on for some time.  I hope it will go away, but maybe I need to buy one of those cushions.  I'll check into it.

Thanks,
Sally

I've had this problem for about 9 months now. The pain is there all the time and ranged from mildly annoying to ecscruciating and often brings me to tears. I've tried special cushions, donut pillows, ice, stretching, and numerous other home treatments to no avail! I went and saw my PCP who ordered an x-ray - it was normal (I expected it would be) and she shrugged her shoulders and said to gain some weight.

Ummm....NO! Not my answer to the problem. So I have an appointment on Oct 1 with an orthopedic spine specialist and I'm hoping he will do a cortisone injection. If that doesn't work then I'm going to beg him to saw the darn thing off. Yes, it hurts bad enough that I would go under the knife to get rid of the pain!

I'll let you know how my appt goes with the Ortho...

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble.  Mine is annoying and hurts, but not as bad as yours.  You had your surgery about a month after mine, so maybe it will go away for both of us soon!  We can only hope!

Good luck to you, and do let me know what your doc says.

Yep, I had that too, but thankfully I don't have a job where I have to sit alot. It does get better and better with time so hang in there!!! Short of taking a pillow or one of those blow up rings with you I'm not sure what you can do except tough it out. Good Luck!

Hey!  SO it sounds like it may be weight loss-related.  Does anyone know why it happens or what causes it?

Thanks for the replies!

I've heard the theory that when you are SMO your body accepts a certain shape - including your spine. Then when you loose a lot of weight rapidly your spine is still in the "old" fat position and takes a while to re-adjust to the new body structure.

I don't know, but mine doesn't seem to want to re-adjust

Mine finally got better after 2 year post op. Have you tried PT?

Instead of buying those expensive cushions, go to Target to the travel section and purchase one of the blow up neck pillows. They're about $8 and they work better than the other ones.

Please spay and neuter your pets!

I know exactly  what you are talking about. When I look in the mirror my butt fat is sitting below my butt so when I sit down I'm sitting on my bones - no fat cushion. A butt lift would probably help but in the meantime a pillow will help!
