Hey, folks--

I'm finding that I cannot sleep through the night.  This is very strange to me, as I've always LUVED my sack time--what can I do?

I can go to sleep at about 10 PM and then I'm wide awake at 0400!!  This makes it very difficult to get through my day at work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Lynn,
I am having the same problem.  I always have loved my sleep time and look forward to puttin on the jammies!  However, now I try to go to sleep at about 10:00 and am up an midnight, 2 or 3:00 and up at 5:00 when I give up trying to sleep.  I know, it is really a drag.  I am thinking it may be, in my case, part of that stinkin change of life.  I am 49, and things are changing.  My doctor agrees that this happens to many women.  She has suggested taking Tylenol PM.  I have not yet, as I really don't like taking meds.  I will be interested in reading the responses that you get!
Good night:)

My PCP says it's an age thing, that it's normal to sleep for shorter periods as we age.  I told him I wasn't that old!

My problem is that I will only sleep for a couple of hours and then be wide awake.  Even worse it's that mind racing, working your self into a tizzy state.  Do you know what I mean?

So now I take Ambien.  I'm one of the lucky ones who don't seem to have any weird side effects.  Although shortly after I started taking it, my son swears we had a conversation I couldn't remember.  And he insists he didn't eat the orange and left the peel on the counter!  But that was a long time ago and nothing like that has happened since, at least that I know of!

Not a good thing I know.  But I also can't deal with not sleeping.  For me the pill is the lesser of two evils.

I agree - sometimes weird things do happen - but I try to take it right before going to bed. I also take atarax to stay asleep. I have insomnia bad and fall asleep sitting up if I don't take something. Tylonol pm is just benedryl with tylenol. You can just take the benedryl generic and it does the same thing but it quit working for me after a while.

I have always had problems falling asleep.  I now take ambein and LOVE IT!  I will take it and go right to bed because it gets me right away.  Heres a funny story for yall.  One night I took my ambein and before going to bed I took some stuff to the kitchen and put them in the dishwasher.  I cleaned the kitchen a little and started feeling alittle dizzy.  I knew it was the ambein and rushed to the bathroom to do the deed before rushing to bed.  Well....apparantlly I fell asleep on the pot because my hubby came in and asked me if I was o.k. He went back to bed and he said the next thing he knew I was bouncing down the hall like a pin ball from one wall to the other.  I got into the bedroom and just stood by the bed until my hubby had to tell me to get into bed.  Wow!  If you do take ambein go straight to bed!  You have to have your sleep and there is nothing wrong with alittle help if you need it.  Have a great day and God bless, Penni

I suffer with this from time to time too. I seem to go in cycles~3 or 4 mths of not sleeping, then a few months of better sleep~right now I'm not sleeping and it does make it difficult to get thru the day. My friend just recommended a product to me called MidNight~its a chewable, herbal pill to help you get back to sleep during the night. I haven't tried it yet, but she swears by it.

Hi Lynn,

I have the same problem, I wake up several times during the night.  I sometimes feel like I am half woke, like am asleep but am a wake at the same time.  It is hard to explain.  This has been going on even before my surgery, so I know it isn't surgery related.  I wish I could find out myself what this is.  I have taken several over the counter meds, and nothing works for me, I really don't like taking pills anyway, except for my vitamins everyday.  Anyway, if you find out why this is happening to you let me know.  I don't want to go to a doctor, because then they want to get into all your businees, like your crazy or something, so I just deal with it.

I have the exact same thing - I wake up at 4am and find I am relieved it is a "reasonable" hour and I can get up.  I try to tell myself it is my alone time - but sleeping until the alarm goes off sounds like a real treat!  I am 38 - so I don't know if the age thing applies here - - BUT perhaps.  I had no idea it was a WLS thing - glad to see I'm not the only one.

I also have wondered if the bed is not as comfortable without all the cushion I used to have.  I have to sleep with a pillow between my knees or I get bruises and my back feels pulled.  My shoulders don't have the same "cush" either... I would love "the answer" - as my family thinks I am nuts!

Thanks for the post and to all *****plied with suggestions!
