I had RNY 7-17-03 and someone asked me what I missed the most.  I had to think about it and then I realized it was ICE CREAM AND POP.  What do you miss the most?

I don't miss anything... I am able to eat whatever I like... just in very small portions.  I have a bite or two of ice cream and I'm satisfied & I have a small soda now and then.

Hi Laura,

Ever since my RNY as you know, we are lactose intolerant now, and cannot digest sugar to well, sometimes I do think about how I would like to have some Ice cream or something sweet, but thank God for this surgery, because every time I do think about it I think about how am going to feel after wards(like crap) so I stay away from it.  This surgery has definitely helped me Immensely.

I really miss desserts made with chocolate sauce...  I can't hardly eat it even in a small tiny few bites as it causes reactive hypoglycemia. My favorite was hot fudge cakes from Shoneys or Sonic.

This is going to sound terrible especially because this is one of the main benefits of having surgery  but , what I miss is :

Going out to eat somewhere, maybe a restaurant, maybe a party, maybe a friend/family house...Seeing SO many things I wants to taste and taste and taste and knowing I can only try a little of one or 2...I know this is crazy and sick in a way, this insanity does not strike me often, but it still does sometimes...I think it is because I live in a small town with little food varieties and when I get to go somewhere and suddenly am confronted with so many choices of so many things I like and my pouch is not going to allow me to get a taste of it all   and I'm not going to be there long enough to even attempt to try it all... Anyway, I think you get the picture...And I truely believe I'm not  the only one who gets struck these head banging impulses...

I miss Dunkan Donuts and Chocolate Chip Cookies from the mall.   I use to love getting me a big cookie and a diet coke.  Like that helped....   I think back now and am like - if I knew then what I know now....  but then again - we know it is all bad - we just can't contol ourselves.

I think what I miss most is being able to go anywhere and being able to eat anything.  LOL

I can't think of anything that I can't eat~although I don't indulge very often now, I am able to eat pretty much everything (a blessing or a curse, I"m not sure). I don't care for certain things now like pasta and steak both of which I used to enjoy.

Oh, how I wish I could say "I really miss eating_________"; however, unfortunately, I can (& do) eat anything.  I wouldn't want to be nauseated/dumping over every little thing, but I DO wish I had a much touchier pouch!!!!  If I really over-do it on very sweet junk carbs, I feel a little queazy & sleepy, but I wish the effects were more pronounced.

So all I can say is that once in awhile, I "mourn" not being able to just pig-out big-time!  Although I can eat virtually anything, I do have to limit the amount eaten at any given time.  (Unfortunately, this doesn't prevent grazing over a period of hours.)

Always,
Jo

It's funny I used to "love" sandwiches. Especially meatloaf sandwiches. Now I "never" have sandwiches and i don't crave them. I actually don't crave much of what I used to love to eat. So i guess what I miss is that, some of the cravings and enjoying the rewards of eating it. But most of all, I miss being able to guzzle down in one or two gulps a full 20 oz bottle of water on a hot summer day, instead of the two swallows i get now.

If I had to pick one thing it would be Everything Bagel with green olive cream cheese!  I can eat most everything, but not that!

This is going to sound really crazy but I miss being able to eat as much as I want.  Like at Thanksgiving.  I've always wished you could have a "day off"!

Of course this is the reason I had surgery, so I couldn't ever eat in large quantities again!
