Detoxifying after WLS

I am 2 years post op RNY.  I lost 116 pounds in the first 9 months and then completely stopped.  In January, I started being more diligent wiht working out, and although I only lost an additional 6 pounds, my body was looking better.

Then comes my smart idea and I went to graveyards 3 months ago - stopped working out, ate badly, etc.  I have now gained about 15 pounds - I had to go buy some pants yesterday so I had comfortable things to wear to work - broke my heart!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has done any of the detoxifying things out there after WLS?  Does it hurt anything?  I'm not expecting miracles, but hoping that a jump in weight loss would help me get back on track.  I have never reached my goal weight, but would like to at least get half-way there in the next year.

Thanks!

I'm going back to basics using the 5 day pouch test.  I'm getting 100 grams of protein each day, drinking my water, taking my vitamins and exercising.  I don't see how that could hurt you, although I know some people are really against the 5 day pouch test.  It could be the principle that we should never have to use a method to "get back" if we would just simply stay on track.  I'm not perfect and need extra help....sooooo....here I am.

Good luck to you!

Thank you!  I have done the 5 day pouch test in the past and usually last through 3 days then sort-of speed up the process, but for getting rid of the carb cravings, it is a great tool!  Love the web site as well.

I was referring to the body detoxifying cleansing kits they have out there - example is brand name "ever cleanse".  They claim to clean out your large intestine making nutrients absorb better, etc.  A side benefit is weight loss.

Aaaaahhhhh.....now that, I'm not familiar with at all.  I'll keep checking the thread to see if anyone else has any words of wisdom.

Dr. Dean Edell says it is a fraud.  Save your money.... your colon is quite capable of performing its assigned function without such products.

Has a detox diet really ever done anything for anyone?  If you tried any previously (before WLS) did they work for you?

If you want to lose 15 pounds you will need to have a net calorie deficiency of around 45,000 calories.  You will either need to eat less or excercise more (or both)

there is some merrit to detox programs.  I am checking into them now.  Looked at colonix and another one called purecolon1000

You won't lose 15 lbs with them, but it is suppose to clean out the bowel of junk.

Along with this....get back into charting what you eat every day, and exercising. You can do this, really you dan.

I am going to order the purecolon1000. Has a free sample, and I will post the results.

i dont know, those colon cleanse things make me nervous.  i would opt for the old fashioned way, chart your eating, go back to basics.   increase your fluids.

anyway thats my two cents

good luck, you can do it.

"your colon is quite capable of performing its assigned function without such products. " Perhaps one of the smartest posts in a very long time.  Cleaning the *gunk* out of your colon is not a fix to gaining 15 lbs.  You admittedly got there by making bad food choices, fix the problem.

Hi Eryn

I have to say I agree with Mike!  Just this past year when I was having my first colonoscopy I had asked my Gastro Dr. your very same questions and his response to me was--Your body cleans itself out and there is NO need to use those products."

As always, you need to check with your own Dr to see what steps are the best for you!

Good Luck!

PS--I am still trying to lose the last 15 pounds to get back down to my original post surgical weight again......so you are NOT alone in your battle of the bulge!
