Hi everyone!  I am having my Panuect. (TT) Tuesday morning.  For those of you that have had them, WHAT do I really need at the hospital?  For RNY, I brought so much stuff I never used.  After TT, how long will I be in major pain, how long staples and drains in for you, tips about sleeping, eating, moving?  Any info would be so gratefully appreciated.  My hubby will be here until Sept. 15 then back to South Korea for the Army.  Will I be good to take care of my ten and five year olds or will I still need help?  Look forward to replies, and thanks.  Have a great weekend!!

Pain~ about 5 days, then it seemed to get better each day.
Sleeping~ I was in a recliner for a month or so, you want to stay in the "W" position for a few weeks.
Drains~ I had none!

I think by the 15th you should be ok to care for the kids. No lifting, and youll want to take it easy, but I think you can do it!

All the best!! Youll love the results!

Let me know how it turns out for you. I had my rny on 3/24/04. Now I will be having the tummy tuck due to constant skin infection. I will have it 9/29/08. Wish you the best and quick recovery. The gastric bypass is the best thing I have ever done for myself. All my best.

Pack light for the hospital.....I'd highly recommend bringing protein shakes for everyday you are in the hospital. Hospital menus SUCK...and their idea of a protein shake is a "high protein" Ensure, with 8 grams of protein and 30 grams of sugar. For my LBL i brought enough 42 g IDS protein vials so I could have 1 for everyday I was in the hospital.

At home, you might want some premade protein shakes, I had a LBL but i noticed my appetitie was really low for the first month or so....other then that if you can rent a lift chair, they are very helpful. I got mine through rent a center, at it cost 89 dollars for the month.

Hi Kathleen,
I had paniculectomy, tummy tuck and hernia repair 7 months after my initial RNY surgery.  I was in the hospital for 4 days. The only things I packed for the hospital  were a few personal toiletry items, my own housecoat to wear over their hospital gowns when I was able to walk the halls and a big comfy loose sweatsuit to wear home.  I took a crossword puzzle book and a couple of magazines but I hardly used them.  I remember having pain during my first four or five days at home.  I wouldn't call it major or exxcruciating pain.  Just the usual pain after any type of major surgery. Most of the pain was in my lower abdomen where the panicullectomy was done.  There was not much pain from the upper abdomen where the hernia was repaired.  The midsection where the tummy tuck was done wasn't that painful but I always felt like i was going to tear my skin and muscles when I moved around. After the first few days Iot taking prescribed meds, I was able to use Ibuprofin for any discomfort. I didn't have a recliner but I was able to sleep propped up on some pillows.  I also had 2 drains which were more of a nuisance than painful,  The only thing I could do to keep them from being pull or caught onto things was to store them in my underwear.  My hubby would tease me about having  the "balls" to go through this surgery!.  Taking pain medication and wearing the abdominal binder as much as possible  really helpd to ease the pain.  The worst part of the whole process was having the 100+ staples removed about 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. Removing the drains didn't hurt at all.  By the time your hubby goes back to Korea, you will have probably healed enough to be able to take care of the kids as long as you don;t have to lift them.  Good luck and many blessings wishing you a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

So how did things go?

I am waiting to find out if my ins. will cover TT with hernia repair with Dr. W. and was wondering how things went for you...

You should be OK by the time your husband leaves. I was feeling pretty good at 2 weeks and went back to work at 3 weeks post op.

I didn't stay in the hospital. I brought an open front robe to wear home and a pillow for my lap to prtect me from the seatbelt.

I only needed pain meds while the drains were in. They came out post op day 8. I slept in a recliner for about 2 weeks. Stay on top of your pain meds for at least the first 72 hours.

Eating will be tough because everything will feel so tight, but make sure you stay on top of your protein and water intake.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

I have pics on my profile.
