Hey Everyone

If you know me you know I am a closet runner want to be.  However, these old knees just give me hell when I try.  I did accomplish a goal of running a 5k when I hit my goal a few years back.  Well, the goal was to cross the finish line and not on a stretcher
  Which I did

I think this must be one of the all time favorite goals for us during our journey.  I get questions all the time, how do I train, what do I do, how do I do it.  To be honest I didn't know.  I just jumped on my treadmill and tried to get up to 3 miles before the race.  Big mistake, as the road is way different than a treadmill.

I am going to the Y tonight...they are having a formal training for our Fall 5k run (Sept. 28) that I did a few  years ago.  Do you want to train with me?  Find out if there is a fall 5k in your area.  If not, you can still train and learn and do it for yourself

COME ON, I DOUBLE DOG DARE YA

If you want to join me, go to your profile and for a goal let's call this the Screamin Knees - 5k.  That way we can track each others progress and cheer each other on.  WE CAN DO IT

I will post what I learned tonight tomorrow.  Watch for the thread called Screamin Knees

Take care,
Kathy

Man, you're just reading my mind today.  Earlier today I signed up for a 5K on Sept 13.  Not much time to prepare, but I want to do it.  The real goal will be to see how much of the 5K I'll run.  Please keep the tips coming.  I'll take all the help I can get.

PS - I always wanted to run a 5K.  It was a goal that I had pre-op and I'm finally making it a reality.  This will be my first ever 5K.

I started the couch to 5 K three weeks ago; I just finished day three of week 2 yesterday. I will do day 1 of week 3 tomorrow. Someone on the main board posted about this so I googled it and started giving it a try. I want to  do the Thanksgiving 5k at the YMCA- The Turkey Trot. I agree with the screaming knees! I started taking glucosamine last month. I think my knees hurt from zumba more than anything as I increased it from two days a week to four this summer. I ordered some Zumba shoes that may help with hte knee pain if it is from Zumba.

I have run a few and even a 7 mile road race since starting this program.
I have even suckered some co-workers into starting it. I would be interested in some group as I am losing my mo-jo but do enjoy running.
I have a plan to run a 5K Sept 7th and October 25th.

See this link- I think it is great!!

There is a 5K fun run on October 4th in Absarokee, MT which is at 4000 F. I ran it my first year and finished last but finished. I would love to be able to do it this year - this has not been my best year so it is like starting over and having gained 30 pounds over the last year too. If I can get over this bronchitis, I will gladly give it a shot - been down for 8 days so really looking forward to getting back out there.

I usually run on my lunch hour - about 11:30 a.m.  It is not that hot then and it clears my mind for the rest of the day.   Let's keep a thread up each week to give us a goal.

Thanks for the challenge!

I started the Couch to 5K program last spring and recommend it.  Get the podcasts too, they help.

Since finishing, I run week 9 (5K) two times a week to keep in shape.  As for pain, other than the first couple of sessions, I haven't had pain.  I'm thinking consistent pain could cause some harm.  Also, start with something like Couch 2 5K, trying to run 3 miles at first probably wouldn't be a great start.

The biggest thing I noticed was that you really need to push through the first 5 mins of running where your legs feel like they will fall off.  After about 10 mins, things even out and the feeling is more or less the same all the way to 30 mins.
