has anyone here tried the 5 day pouch test?

I am 3 1/2 years post op, I have gained some of my weight back, and I need to get back on track. I was reading the 5 day pouch test plan and I think it sounds good, I was wondering if anyone here had done it and if they feel it worked or helped them get back on track?

There's a bunch of us here that have done it! I did it successfully 2x's~once after Halloween and then again after Christmas. I do think it helped me to refocus and cut back, although I did not get the feeling of "pouch tightening" like some do. I was definitely eating less, but did not feel a physical restriction. I don't know if I'll feel the need to do it again or not. Good Luck if you give it a try!

I did a modified one.  Instead of shakes I had protein bars.   I needed something that will stay in the pouch to make me feel full.  Shakes just pass straight thru.
I works.  It proves that the tool still works and we can do it when we want to.  And it got me back on track and detoxed me off of the bad carbs.

I'm 4 1/2 years out and I have about 20 lbs I need to loose. I have seen lots of people on the boards who said it helps you get back on track I just need the motivation to not eat for 2 days..Yikes...Good luck and keep us posted on how you do..

I'm completing day two today.  We have several of us on the Texas board doing it......I have done it before with some weight loss.  My main objective is to refocus and I do find this helps.  I tend to do better with a "plan", whatever it may be.

Good luck!

I'm curious what your "meals" consist of.  Can you tell me all you've had on each day?  I've been contemplating, but alittle confused at exactly what we can and cannot have.

It's just like newly post op diets....You do a mini 5 days in protein stages.  From liquid to soft to dense protein...No sugar or carbs...It's quite simple....I ate a few cherries on liquid days!  It still worked!  The main objective is to get you to feel your pouch again, cut out carbs and get you back on track. without drinking with meals and remember the way it used to be.....It works great.  Then it's up to you to keep doing things right and don't go back to sugar and light on the carbs if you are a carb junkie like me!  It really changed me back to a healthier eater and I learn a buncha stuff that I didn't know....during and after the test.  Like JUST how much sugar is like a drug for some of us...and causes really awful gas that I thought was just RNY....Day two I had no more gas and my bowels became normal...So I musta needed that test really bad!

I knew i was off...but I didn't realise how much....

Thanks Anita.

It seems easy, but I guess I was just getting confused with the liquid portion of it.  How do you get enough protein in, or is it that you have to supplement with the protein shakes?
