I am anything but successful at this point in time! I would like to get some motivation from people who have gained weight after WLS and have been successful at losing all or some of the regain. If you don't mind sharing how much you gained and also how much you have lost and what the turning point was. I feel out of control and I keep telling myself that I will go back to basics tomorrow. Unfortunately tomorrow hasn't came yet and I am getting worse by the day. I want to read your story in hopes that it will motivate me! I did see my nutritionist about 2 months ago and have all the back to basic info and hopefully will be back on track soon!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hi!
I had RNY Jan, 06.
My lowest weight~ 182
Ater Gaining~ 207
Now~ 195
I knew I was gaining so I quit weighing myself. That was MY first mistake because I weighed 2 times a week to monitor my weight. When my size 12's starting gettting tight, I stepped on the scale and that's when I knew I had to do something!!
It's been 2 1/2 weeks since I started working on loosing. I want to get back to my lowest weight and hopefully getting to my surgeons goal of 175. I joined weigh****chers just to help get me back on track! So far, It's helping me. Knowing that I have to weigh in, keeps me straight. Also the support groups are great!
However you do it, I hope it works out for you. GOOD LUCK!

Hello,
I am on the losing side again after a 42# weight gain. So far, I have lost 30 of the 42# I gained.
It was not easy, I have no magic or shortcuts and it took about 1 1/2 years to lose 30#. I'm still trying to lose 5 more pounds to meet one of my goals. Please check out my profile, blogs and latest posts and be encouraged. Most of my posts are pretty much the same but you can also see other members' messages of encouragement to those who are fighting weight gain. It takes a lot of patience and perserverence but losing a re-gain is possible. If you can find a support group in your area, please get there as soon as possible. Please come to this forum as often as you can for more motivation and encouragement. You can do this. Good luck and many blessings.

I gained 10 pounds at the holidays last winter...and lost it by journaling my food to see where I could cut back...learning from my food choices where I could cut back and then cutting 500 calories from where I was gaining or not able to stabilize my weight and it all came off. For me it was cutting back on some fat and sugar. It took me 4 months but I did it! LOL It's really that simple...but it takes a while to get an average of what you eat and then learn how much to cut back...and keep at it! Now that I know how to do it...it's easier to figure it all out and get right on it. I need that structure ( a journal) soi can SEE what i am doing wrong or right...I know I have to be paitent when I am doing things right...Those plateaus and stalls can mess with your confidence and you give up all too soon...So when you do a log and you KNOW you are doing it right, you just have to be pateint...That's harder than actually cutting the calories! That's my experience anyway!
i also had to cut out a candy habit I started and that was half the battle! Stop the SUGAR AND CARBS! That helped GREATLY!
Good luck!

This subject matter has been (pardon the expression) weighing on my mind now for a couple of weeks.
I am just over 1 year out from surgery (August 6) and have completely stopped losing and have even gained 5 pounds. I have yet to hit my goal weight of 142 pounds. I am terribly disappointed in myself. Lately, all I want to do is eat. It's stress eating. Plain and simple. I have gone back to bad habits of eating cereal, some sweets, and very little protein. I KNOW I CAN'T DO THIS, but for some reason I have no self control.
My daughter is almost 3 years post op. My best friend is almost 4 years post op. BOTH warned me that this would happen. Each have had weight gain and neither have gotten it off. My daughter has lost about 8 pounds of the 20 she gained, my best friend hasn't lost any of her 30 pound regain. Hers is a candy habit...my daughter's has been more of a eating the wrong foods habit and stress eating. Like mother like daughter. :(
I am just frustrated that I am already falling back into old habits at one year out.
I think being able to come and talk about it with others going through the same thing will be so helpful.
I wish us all good luck, and I'm gonna hold you all to it to hold me accountable! I am a big girl...time for me to act like one!
Thanks for starting this thread. Hopefully we can keep it going and keep each other motivated!

I have been down this road and have been successful at turning it around. My pre surgery weight was 365 I lost down to 175 (5'11"). I remained there for a few years, then I stopped following the rules and began gaining. Then about 2 years ago, I stepped on the scale and was back to 235. I decided I was not going to be a failure, that I was the only one who could make the changes. So I went back to the basics, started tracking my food again, measuring my food, exercising and holding myself accountable by weighing myself regularly. I cut out the sugar, "bad" carbs, added back in the water. I lost the weight I regained and then some! I am now at 150 and have maintained the new weight for over a year. I still follow the same rules and have accepted this is how I have to live regardless of how the rest of my family, coworker, etc are eating. I basically see it as someone who is addict. If I start eating a little candy here and there, I know that it would only be a matter of time before I will be under the spell of the sweets and eating it all the time. So I follow a low glycemic diet. Once I got past the first 3 days, I really do not crave sugar or high glycemic foods. This says a lot since I thought chocolate should have been a major food group. Its never to late to make the changes, I was certain I had stretched my pouch beyond function but I was wrong. The tool we have been given is still there and will still work if given the chance. I hope this helps, you can make the change and turn it around

Taking back control CAN be done!
09/06/01 Surgery 292lb (5' 7" size 26) (45 years old)
02/ 03 Bowel obstruction surgery - lost down to 128 lb. (size 2/4)
04/ 03 Began working to regain- started sipping w/ my meals & added wheat thins (carbs)
12/ 03 Gained up to 148 (20 lb in 8 months)
05/ 04 Gained up to 168 (20 lb in 5 months!)
06/ 04 TOPPED at 172!!!! and took back control!
Checked my habits, made changes & gradually lost the excess... I happily "rest" with an 8ish lb variation and I don't ever, ever, ever STRESS about it! (heck bloat & contipation can pack 5-6 lb in a couple of days!)
Have weighed between 159 & 166 for almost 4 years now... 9/6/08 will be seven awesome years since surgery!!!
you can work the tool!
Take care!
