Jennifer, I know you can make it to your goal! My best advice is to follow your dr's order to the letter and don't test the waters with sugars, fats, etc. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!!

Hi Jennifer,

If weight loss is what you want then you have defintely made the right decision.  Just follow your Dr's ordrers and you should be fine.  Remember the surgery will help you lose the  majority of the weight in the beginning, but it is up to you to continue to eat healthy, and live a healthy lifestyle, I will be praying for you on the 28th.  Good-Luck!!!!

You won't believe how your world is going to change! My advice: don't worry about those little goals. Don't say, "I have to lose 10 pounds by next Wednesday." You'll drop lots of weight, but it may come off in little bunches and most people have several regains and stalls on the way down. Your body will come to a place where it's happy, and nobody can predict where that will be, whether it's 200 or 150 pounds. Really, really concentrate on your health. The first few months will be difficult, both physically and emotionally. You may feel like you've lost your best friend for a while. It's hard to prepare for that, but you won't be able to turn to comfort food like you've done in the past. Remember that's temporary and you'll find better ways to compensate, jus****ch that you don't develop bad habits in lieu of overeating (spending too much money, alcohol, some people become sex addicts). After about a year, you'll start to feel like a normal person again. Then you have to make some decisions about just how much you're willing to do to reach and maintain a comfortable weight. You'll need to be honest with yourself about just how many hours per week you can exercise, and how much you're willing to give up. It's easy at first to say, "I'll never eat another bad carb," but really, that's not likely. Try to develop habits of eating what's good for you, not necessarily just because it tastes good. Your tastes may change significantly after surgery too, especially at first. You may find yourself craving spinach instead of chocolate. Keep lots of supportive people around you too. You'll find that some people won't be comfortable with you losing a lot of weight, especially those that are overweight themselves. Oh! Don't spend too much money on new clothes, and it's hard because you'll love getting those smaller sizes. I stayed at 160 pounds for a long time and filled my closet with size 12's, just thrilled about it, and all of a sudden I dropped to a size 4. Never wore a 10 or 8, just went straight to size 4. Go to your local thrift stores and consignment shops. I'm so tickled for you. Even though you won't be a grad for a long time, I'd love to hear how you're doing.

I went from 406 to 190 in a little under a year.

As you start to lose weight, remember: there is no fate but that which you make.
