Urgh!  Just getting too comfortable with being able to eat what I want--I went to a big casino's buffet with a friend last night--ate an entire lobster tail and then a plate of veggies (4 pcs of asparagus that was almost like grass, two slices of sauteed yellow squash, a veggie spring roll) and then practically OD'd on some tiny petit fours--I was full.  But she had an entire slice of the most beautiful prime rib and offered me a bite--which I took.

She said I practically turned white and green around the gills as she watched.  I knew I'd eaten too much as I swallowed the second bite.

URRRRGH.

Buffets are a complete waste of money for me!!!

You'd think  I'd know better.

I thought for sure I was going to have to stick my head in the wastecan before the valets finally found my car so I could go home!!!!

Your buffet selections sound delicious! I love thin asparagus! I have to be so careful about the one bite too many. I often get the signal too  late then am miserable like you were! I agree buffets are a waste but I have gone to a few with other people.
The worst experience I have ever had was at an all inclusive in mexico. I ordered some wonderful steak that came with sweet potatoes and brocolini. I made the mistake of having a margarita before the food came and was I sick! I was so nauseated, sweaty and hot. My husband ate quickly and then tried to eat mine; I forked his hand. If I did not get it either did he!

I know what you mean..A buffet is just not cost effective for us...I heard there is a buffet in town that charges take outs by the weight...For me, that would be wonderful and I'd be eating lunch for the rest of the week...I can eat more than I should but it pays me back, that's for sure.

How did you do on the lobster? I found it's just too rich for me and I can't eat much of that at all...Takes me all night and it just doesn't sit well. I think it was the butter, actually...But darn good stuff....
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I did well with the lobster (there really wasn't that much meat in the tail) but I don't put the butter on it; I find that is a little too rich for me, too.

Well, I'll just have to be more careful in the future; my roommate is always getting these "comps" and I will just have to enjoy what I can and not be so greedy!\

Now I know the anguish behind that old R&R line "one toke over the line"!

Wow - sounds delicious!  And holy FSM - an entire lobster tail?!  I am impressed.

I still love a buffet, because I love having little bits of this and that instead of having one whopping portion of any particular thing.  My favorite buffet is the Chinese/Japanese buffet near our house, where they have a sushi bar.  I get some sushi, some sashimi, the steamed crab legs, and some dabs of this and that from the rest of the buffet.  My DH, who I've christened the World's Cheapest Man, doesn't mind taking me to that buffet - from a cost-effectiveness standpoint - because of all the seafood that I eat there.  That's his justification, and I'm happy to let him make it.  Just pass the butter for my crab legs, please

Thank goodness, my DH has decided that Buffets are not good for him!  We used to do the Buffet all the time and he can really pack it away and I picked up some really bad habits from him!  But when we go to Vegas next year Buffets will be in our way, and I hope I handle them well.  I won't mind at all paying to do the seafood and prime rib

DH still has trouble understanding that I am not eating as much because I CAN"T not that I just don't want to.   We did mid afternoon meal not long ago at Mongolian Barbecue and I ordered a lunch plate (no all you can eat)  while he did the all you can eat.  I loaded my smaller plate up with seafood and few veggies and was able to take the leftovers home.  He went back for 2nd's and 3rds and was miserable the rest of day.  One day he may learn, but I won't hold my breathe!

But oh man, just typing this makes me want to go to a seafood buffet!  Thank goodness, I am learning the difference between head hunger and the real thing!  Cause my head still wants all that stuff NOW!   lol

I did Vegas last year for business and took MYSELF to the buffet.

I ate soooo much!  At least a pound of crab legs with tons of butter, prime rib,  some great wonton soup, pasta with garlic/butter sauce ,  some type of baked fish with honey/pecans on it,  coconut shrimp (about 6 large ones) ,a chimichanga (okay half of one), some fried rice and much much more !  I also ate about 6 desserts including some awesome bread pudding and cheesecake with cherries!  Yummy!!

I would have gone to more buffets, but my work was feeding us most meals... which were good, but I like buffets w/o co-workers myself!

About 2 hours later I managed to put down an entire Nathan's hot dog and pretzel from NY / NY hotel.

heh heh... Vegas was a food fest !   Enjoy it !

You're right!  Buffets are a waste for us - thankfully!!

The saying that our eyes are bigger than our stomachs applies to wls patients.  So many options yet so little space in our pouches.

Great lessons and experience though for the next time and for the rest of us.

Sometimes things I eat don't agree and the meal comes back up.  I look for the silver lining: I got to eat but the calories didn't get absorbed.

Its not intentional obviously: that would be an eating disorder.

Sometimes that one extra bite makes all the difference. I'm bad to try to get my money's worth, knowing that I'm paying the same amount whether I make myself sick or not. Even if it's not a buffet. Have you noticed that Chick fil A is making their strips bigger??? I could always eat four strips with some FF honey mustard, and now they're huge and most days I can only comfortably hold 2, but most of the time I'll try to cram in part of the 3rd one just because I paid for it.
