Hi everyone, it's been a long time since I've been here to this site and man! Has it changed. Looks good. Ok, here's my problem...haven't heard of this with anyone else, but thought I would throw it up in the air to see what all of you might know about this. I am 3 years post-op. Not really a success, but I have kept 60 of those darn pounds off. Then about 3-4 months ago I started getting cramps in my tummy. Most of the time it was because I was hungry, and food would take the pain away. Well, it has gotten worse. Thank goodness it comes and goes, maybe a week with no pain, then a few days of almost constant pain. The pain is not eased by food much anymore. And there are times the pain is so severe I actually cry :'( which is very rare for me. About a month ago I went to the ER, and told them the pain feels like a kidney stone but it's in the wrong place...lol. They couldn't find anything "wrong" (there is nothing in that spot to cause me that kind of pain), gave me a few pain pills (which did help some) and told me to see the surgeon...of course after having my PCP refer me there. I don't have any insurance, none, el-zippo! I also don't have much of any money. I did go to my PCP, but I am paying her back monthly. She said yes, I should go see the surgeon, but I can't afford to go. What I am looking for here is help on what my pain is. Have any of you gone through this? Any ideas on what this is or how to get rid of it? It was real bad last night, and if I thought I could have found out any thing different, I most likely would have gone to the ER. Please someone, know what I am going through. :fairy: I feel all alone through this because no one seems to knows what it is.

Betsy, We can't give you any medical advice here except to tell you the same as your pcp, go and see your surgeon. Talk to the surgeon and explain the finances....they do have a heart and most will work out some type of arrangements. Does your county have medical cards that you can qualify for? Good luck and keep us posted. Darlene

Hi Darlene, I know there is no medical "advice" given here, which IS a good thing, but telling me some of the things that it could be (which I was looking for) so I can research it myself so I can either rule it out or be scared poopless enough to do something drastic to get the help I need. I did call the surgeon, talked to the receptionest who was very unsympathic and said that I must pay at the time of the service, no exceptions! I live near the NH boarder and have seen that in a nearby town in NH they will work with people who need assistance, but can't seem to find out if they will take people from Maine (where I live)...I know, I need to do some more digging. I am on disability for about a year now, and (get this) for the first two years while on disability I do not qualify for Medicade ( or is it Medicare?) so if worst comes to worst, I will have to wait another year before I get the insurance and am able to go back to the surgeon. I have been to a free clinic, but they have very limited resouces and can only recomend me to the surgeon, but not help pay for it, nor get it so I can pay monthly on the bill. Thank you for your help and concern. ~B

two possibilities, duodonal ulcer which is treated with carafate, or gallbladder which requires surgery. Had both, both were painful, but the gallbladder was most painful. Call your doc, and please keep us posted, ok? blessings, Tami

Hi Tami, Yes, I know how painful the gallbladder can be, had it removed a few years back, but this is more painful would you believe, or maybe it just seems it because the memory does fade on how much pain was really there after a few years. I am going to do a little reseach on that ulcer thing as well as the bowel obstruction that was also mentioned in this messageboard. Thank you for your help. I will keep this place posted about it, mainly because maybe other people might be going through this and as in the dark about it as I am. Thank you so much for your post.

I also could be the start of a bowel obstruction. We get those from adhesions (scar tissue from surgery etc). Don't mess around with this. Go see your surgeon!

just spent 2 days in the hospital with a belly ache that turned out ot be a bowel obstruction. fortuantly it resolved on its own but may not be so lucky next tiem. If you have to go to the er , they have to care for you , it is the law. the hospital social worker may be able to help you with the expenses, and nearly all hospitals have programs for patients who cannot pay.

Betsy, please get this checked out, read my profile or posts on the board back in July. There are several things that could be causing this pain and there are alot of people who may be able to give their stories also. I know money is a big issue, but you don't want to wait too long if it is something serious. I sure didn't think I would have problems being almost 3 yrs post op. I'll pray that you feel better soon and find out what's wrong. Email me if you want any additional info. Georgina

Betsy - I am experiencing the same problem. It started back in December right before Christmas. I was having this terrible cramping in my stomach that got continually worse (mine's came after I had eaten) I was in unbearable pain. I was visiting my mother for the holidays and ended up in the hospital for 3 days! At first they couldnt find the source of pain. My surgeon came into see me and ran every test you can imagine. Finally he told me that it was a hernia and it happens frequently to people who lose weight from GBS. He told me to consider having it repaired as soon as possible. Well, the pain went away and I chose to go home for the holidays and didnt have surgery. Well time went by and nothing happened until lately...everytime i eat certain things the pain comes back and it is excruciating at times. Needless to say, I plan to have surgery soon as possilbe. I hope this might help you a little. By the way, i am post op 18months.
