Not the DS but I had a revision from a lapband to an RNY and let me tell you, he is an excellent surgeon. He has done over 5000 weight loss surgeries and has a very low complication rate. My biggest issue with using him is the wait time in his office. I usually waited 2-3 hours at each appt. But looking back 3 years later and at goal...it was all worth it.

Does Barker do the DS? If he does, he ain't been doing it long so I would advise against it. Check out Dr. Stewart in Denton and the DS board for recommendations about other capable surgeons. The DS is a very specialized WLS. Get someone who knows what they're doing. Last time I checked Barker didn't do them and it would worry me if I was one of his first handful. He's an awesome surgeon but still - I wouldn't want to be one of anyones firsts, ya know?

Somebody has to be first for everyone, even the best of them. Me personally, if I met the guy and felt confidence in him, I would go for it. But that's just me. Truthfully, I did not check and see how many WLS surgeries my doc had done. I met him and his bedside manner clicked with me.

I think that Darrell Stewart in Denton is the only doctor in our area that does DS. I have not heard of anyone else doing it nearby.

Dr. Barker is a great surgeon, despite the fact he doesn't do the DS ..

The only regularly-practicing DS surgeon in the N TX area is Dr. Daryl Stewart in Denton. The only one in S TX at present is Dr. Erik Wilson in Houston. Dr. Ganta in Austin still is doing some DSes as well.
