It will be a while before I get to ask Dr Richards any questions so I thought I would ask here.

Did any one recieve Heprin shots after the surgery? Thats the shots they put in your mid section to work against blood clots.
I had it when my gallbladder was taken out.
Just wondering if Dr Richards orders it.

Thanks :)

I don't know about Dr. Richards. I know that is part of the protocol for my surgeon.

Hey Janice, yea hon, they sure did sting, but it was for my benefit. I had some trouble before my surgery, my system for some reason wanted to clot. So for my well be'n, and too I have some heart trouble, it was used as a precaustion. If you are uneasy, I don't think that it is used all of the time, ask him, he is so understandable. Such a good hearted soul!

I was actually wanting the heprin shots. I had heard that some dont order it.
I am a little worried about the clotting taking over and causing something. I would hate to have a traveling clot.

In my anatomy course they had told us  the body actually has to fight clotting taking over our system. So I wanted to make sure I had a heprin shots afterward.

You have eased my mind till I  actually get to speak with him :)
Thanks!

I have never been to Vanderbilt that they didn't give you a heprin shot weather you needed it or not. When I was in for my RNY, they gave it regularly. When I went in for gallbladder surgery and issues, got it regularly. Even when I was in for a couple days with ulcer problems, I got it regularly. I asked about why I always got them and they said it was the normal protocol at vanderbilt. Granted, I didn't have Dr Richards but since they are all from the same office, I would assume it is the same protocol. They are definatley no fun but I understand why they give them and just deal with the fact that Vandy will normally give them.
