I know it has been awhile since I had posted last but I was in the waiting period for my insurace and was getting discouraged and didn't want to pass that vibe on to anyone else. Well all the waiting has paid off and my surgery is Thursday (Feb 1)! I am so excited, I didn't get denied and that was approved right away. I am getting nervous now that it is 4 days away. So if anyone has any last minute advice that I can have I would greatly appreciate it. I am so worried that I am forgetting to prepare for something, so I would appreciate anyone's help!

Nicole, I was so worried that I drove myself crazy but what I found out was that so many things just don't matter like you think they do. Get your bills that will come due during recovery ready so you're not dealing with that. Make sure you have a comfy place to plant yourself when you come home, a recliner or a comfy couch with lots of pillows since you will probably not be able to stretch out on your bed for a while. I don't know what kind of surgery you are having but I had an open bypass and I lived in my recliner for two weeks. Make sure you have foods at home...broth, protein powders, shakes or whatever kind of protein you will use, your vitamins, etc. The number one piece of advice I can give you would be to remember that once your come out of surgery, you won't be worried about so much of what now seems so important...so go easy on yourself and keep us posted about your progress!

Thank You and I will definitly keep everyone posted. I just keep thinking that I don't have enough stuff. Like my protein or vitamins or that I am going to come home from the hospital and have forgotten something. Thank you for your advice though!

Hey there. Being nervous is so normal. I just cleaned like crazy to keep busy and planned and cooked meals for the family and stuff. My advice, don't overpack. USe or ask for mouth moisturizer it comes in a tube and you can put it in your mouth as well as on it when you can't have liquids to fight the cotton mouth affect. Also clear no carb Isopure isn't the best tasting but isf tolerable and to keep your strength up you need it. And walk slowly but walk it works out the gassy bloated feeling. I got up to walk and then every time I would lay down I'd get stiff and bloated again. I preferred to walk. Keep us informed. God Bless Beth B. in Chattanooga

Isopure? Where can I get that? I am willing to try anything that will keep my energy level up! Thank you for the thoughts and prayers

GNC or Vitamin Shoppe carry it here. It a bit pricey but without the protein you have no energy. Make sure you get the no carb version. Its got about 40 grams of protein per bottle I drank two a day while on clear liquids. Careful with the yogurt that it is sugar free you don't want to dump early out.

Nicole, Congrates on your upcoming surgery! I would just adv that you stock up on things at home such asSugar free Jello, S/F puddings broth soups and such because when you get home from surgery the last place you want to be is at the grocery store. Also get plenty of yogurts like Krogers Carb Master's and make sure you have all your vitamins ready as well. Best of luck and Keep in touch with us!!

Congratulations on your surgery date! Where will it be? I had mine almost a month ago and am very glad I made the decision to do this. I was extremely nervous as well, and that's normal. I was so nervous in the pre-op room before surgery and they gave me valium to help with the anxiety of surgery...very nice. But you have no need to worry. Everyone will and should take care of you and just remember to walk, walk, walk after surgery and use the breathing tube they give you. The bloating and tightness was the hardest part for me after surgery but that goes away after about 2 weeks. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I kept a blog of my recovery too, and you can feel free to read that as well. Hope this helps. -Alyssa

Thank you for the advice, I feel so nervous! Not about the decision but about the procedure itself. I am going to read your blog asap. Thank you! My surgery is at Gateway Hospital in Clarksville and Dr. Steely is my surgeon. He has been very nice the few times I have seen him and his office has been very helpful. Thank you so much for the advice
